Final day of Escapril poem! I know I wasn’t able to participate in Shylovrs Poetry Orchard’s Monstrous Love Creative Writing Workshop but after this discovery I need to do this now.
Story behind this poem:
I have discovered something about myself. I have a habit of biting. Especially when something I see activates the neurons in my brain to make my teeth itch. Like a cat.
So I bite it.
It’s affectionate of course but like Apparently biting was just a think I did more openly as time went on? And my partner confirmed I did bite them also. And it’s wild because like I don’t remember doing that, but it’s happened so often it’s second nature.

A self discovery is groundbreaking to you, /
but is everyday life to everyone else. /
How second nature does a habit have to be /
for there to be no memory recollection of said habit? /
Habit is not the right word. /
Not for this. /
Teeth have always been a loving fixation for me. /
In fact, I am more accepting of teeth in all their forms; /
more than most others. /
All I know is my teeth itch when I look at something. /
Snacks become a priority so I don’t bite things or people. /
The amount of shredded pillows from my cute aggression is… /
Alarming. /
I know my toothy love is affectionate. /
I bite to endear you. /
I just know I look at someone or something; /
my neurons glow and pulse with activation; /
And now I’m biting it or them. /
I am not slick and mysterious; /
Subtlety who? /
It’s laughable how I perceived my toothy love to be low key. /
After all, why smile so big and warm; /
If not to show you my love in all its forms.
