• Considering we waited almost a year to only be greeted with a Facebook clone that hasn't even been reworked into being an art site, I don't think I will ever resume posting here. Everyone's followers have evaporated, I can't post images ON AN ART SITE, and so I must post to the void. If you happen to be interested, here are better websites to find my art on.

This is my entry for the pikollab of February 14th! I hope you like it, and don't forget to check out the other artists' beautiful illustrations!!

    *・° ------->

    ALT description:
A drawing of Piko Utatane (Vocaloid 2) for Pikollab's February 14th Collab.

The drawing shows Piko hunched over, barely holding flowers that keep sprouting from his mouth, the petals fly through space; he looks at the camera/viewer with resigned surprise. The background is shaded in black and white with the kanji for Hanahaki behind him. Illuminating his embarrassed face is a juxtaposed star with brighter, more cheerful colors. Despite his suffering, Piko can't help but find love wonderful.

  • Ngl it's been a week since the 2.0 release and I'm disappointed to see there still hasn't been a single CLEAR improvement in sight.
Idk if the team is still as small as it was before but like. I have to sadly agree with some criticism I've seen on the main page.

It's sad to see that a new version of the website was pushed out when it clearly isn't functional, and I'm wondering why the staff decided to revamp it into looking like a mashup of other social media websites like FB and Twt. Reactions?? Rlly??

Why am I still not able to upload a banner and why did it make an independent post the one time it seemed to work? Why did it delete the banner when I tried to hide my post from my timeline???
Why is there a 'followers' tab before my gallery (that's not even called gallery) and why do I have to click a button to see past 6 previews of the most recently posted art? Is this not a website dedicated to art and creative stuff? Why does it not show my gallery proper?
Is the activity so damn low on the website rn that it keeps looping to the same things I've been seeing for the past 7 days? Or have people been posting and I don't see anything?
And why is it that some users seem to be fine with uploading stuff and others aren't?

Maybe I'm just ignorant about the current situation or what the staff is up to but I would've sincerely preferred to wait longer than to face the excitement of a new version, only to immediately eat disappointment. I've always loved the initiative they had in creating a safe space for artists given how most platforms are going to sh!t, but idk man.

In any case, I'm going back to my corner on twt, IG and bsky lol. I shall be waiting for news but will stop checking every 2 days if I can upload a banner or simple image

  • sorry to ride the criticism train, but this site is really giving stock social media site with inkblot's name slapped on it, it's honestly creeping me out a little

what bothers me mostly is how it doesn't at all feel focused on art anymore - you're encouraged to say "what's on your mind" with attachments as an afterthought. the wording of "photos" over "art"? reactions? (genuine question: do people like emoji reaction systems? they're fun on discord, but it feels... odd here (and to state the obvious, very facebook)) and why do profile galleries come after FOLLOWERS? what's the point of an art website where it feels that people's galleries are being hidden away? with all due respect, the redesign has a lot of things that just feel wrong about it

  • New Version Number who dis?

I'm lowkey just waiting for *any* deviantArt-like: (Inkblot, Artfol, SheezyArt, Cara) to make artists STOP *ONLY* posting onto general-purpose, timeline-only sites.

It's harder to go through and consume a lot of art on those.

Not used to the Facebook-y UI of Inkblot 2.0, as… I've been a chronic and intentional Facebook avoider all my life, but we'll see.

  • I've been thinking about this for a bit, but many of the design choices that came with this 2.0 update are... baffling, to say the least? The site is actually usable now (it barely worked for me before), but it feels like another Facebook/Twitter clone, rather than an art site. I'll continue to observe how things develop but I'm not sure I'm convinced yet.

I also wanted to test uploading art here but I quite literally can't, I get an error every time.

  • NGL after 4 years it looks like a combination of Twitter and Facebook. I thought it was gonna be like old DA and more suited for artists? There’s no gallery, just a photo page like Facebook. The more I explore this site the more I’m turned off by it.

    What happened and why?

I liked the other layout better.

    For comparison: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWg1_XEEOK4

  • Oh god... What even happened here? We went from an art site to a facebook clone?

All my artwork is out of order, my page doesn't even feel like an art site gallery, the front page is just another scrolling timeline where everything is massive and built with only mobile users in mind... I have to scroll endlessly to see any new artwork, hidden among people's status posts...

No way to browse just artwork outside of tags. No way to see a tile of recently uploaded artwork. At least as far as I can tell. Clicking on trending tags brings me to yet another timeline scroll, which isn't even centered on desktop. It's aligned to the left with a lot of dead space on the right that is just... empty.

Yeah no. This website is not for me. This isn't an art site. ("Photos" instead of "Gallery"???) It's yet another generic social media clone. Sorry, but that's not what I'm interested in. I don't know why there's such a push for every new site having a mobile-centric UI, even on desktop, designed to keep you scrolling forever on your phone. It is *so clunky* to use on desktop. It's so easy to miss new art uploads, because you can't view thumbnails on a grid. Discoverability becomes tied to how often people share your pieces around.

I'm just tired, man. Maybe I'm just getting old and exhausted from trying out so many new "art sites". The way artwork is displayed and discovered is one of the most important things to me. I want to be able to open the front page, and see a grid of new artwork, where I can select multiple tabs to open and browse at my leisure. I want my profile to have my art be the focus. I don't need everything to try to function like bluesky or twitter, and if this is the direction inkblot is going to go, then well... I don't think I'll be giving it another chance.

So if anyone who happened to follow me here (I can see my follower count got wiped anyway) wants to see what sort of art I'm doing now, please check out any of my other social links here:

    https://runicillusionist.carrd.co/

I hope for those of you who do intend on staying that this site serves your needs better than mine. But for me, I'm out.

    - Rune

EDIT: WHY IS THE WEBSITE CARD LINK SO BIG!???

  • made these w my left hand

[ID: First image: A page of traditional drawings made with the artist's non-dominant hand. The lines are all squiggly, but confident nonetheless. Two of these doodles portray a person without a face, and in one of them they are pulling on a string hung from the ceiling with force. There's also another drawing, but this time it's of a big bell.

Second image: A traditional sketch made with the artist's non-dominant hand. There are two drawings, one of a person with their face covered looking over their shoulder, and another of an arm holding a thin pen. The person's bony back is visible, and their right arm is obscured by their torso.

Third image: A traditional sketch in red ink, which was made with the artist's non-dominant hand. There are three squiggly drawings of a faceless person, their face hidden behind a geometrical shape. The drawings depict them down on the floor, avoiding eye contact, and throwing their hands in the air to make unknown signs respectively.

Final image: A traditional sketch in red ink made with the artist's non-dominant hand. It depicts a person without a face doing a peace sign close to the viewer. There's text behind them that reads: Share your beautiful unemployed soul to the world and let it change the color of the seas. End ID]

  • dont mind me, just trying out the schedule feature w these two :-)

[ID: A four panel sketch comic of our characters Peseta and Rukhsar when they were alive.

First panel: Both of them are on the street taking a stroll, as Peseta puts his hand on his inner jacket's pocket and says: 'Yeah, I call the $1 bill 'the diet dollar' because it's such a tiny amount of money to me'. Peseta looks smug and Rukhsar looks right at him with a smile on her face.

Second panel: Peseta takes out his flip-phone from his pocket and a dime falls out.

Third panel: The dime rolls over Peseta and ends up falling trough a nearby sewer.

Fourth panel: Peseta loses his confidence as he watches the sewer eat the dime, yelling "Noooo!" with visible sweatdrops on his face. He swiftly regains his composure after the fact and turns to Rukhsar again in an attempt to reconquer her by saying that it was an heirloom. End ID]

First image: A halfbody digital illustration of our characters, young Peseta and Rukhsar posing for a photo. Peseta is a dark-skinned black woman with a slit left eyebrow, and he's pointing at the viewer with a smug look on his face while holding Rukhsar. Rukhsar is a big and tall hijabi with dimples on her face, and she's got her hand over her torso as she smiles and lifts an eyebrow. They're both wearing formal attire, but Peseta's glitter-covered suit is a special kind of eyesore. The background is white with splashes of neon green.
