This is my entry for the pikollab of February 14th! I hope you like it, and don't forget to check out the other artists' beautiful illustrations!!

A drawing of Piko Utatane (Vocaloid 2) for Pikollab's February 14th Collab.

The drawing shows Piko hunched over, barely holding flowers that keep sprouting from his mouth, the petals fly through space; he looks at the camera/viewer with resigned surprise. The background is shaded in black and white with the kanji for Hanahaki behind him. Illuminating his embarrassed face is a juxtaposed star with brighter, more cheerful colors. Despite his suffering, Piko can't help but find love wonderful.

  • Ngl it's been a week since the 2.0 release and I'm disappointed to see there still hasn't been a single CLEAR improvement in sight.
Idk if the team is still as small as it was before but like. I have to sadly agree with some criticism I've seen on the main page.

It's sad to see that a new version of the website was pushed out when it clearly isn't functional, and I'm wondering why the staff decided to revamp it into looking like a mashup of other social media websites like FB and Twt. Reactions?? Rlly??

Why am I still not able to upload a banner and why did it make an independent post the one time it seemed to work? Why did it delete the banner when I tried to hide my post from my timeline???
Why is there a 'followers' tab before my gallery (that's not even called gallery) and why do I have to click a button to see past 6 previews of the most recently posted art? Is this not a website dedicated to art and creative stuff? Why does it not show my gallery proper?
Is the activity so damn low on the website rn that it keeps looping to the same things I've been seeing for the past 7 days? Or have people been posting and I don't see anything?
And why is it that some users seem to be fine with uploading stuff and others aren't?

Maybe I'm just ignorant about the current situation or what the staff is up to but I would've sincerely preferred to wait longer than to face the excitement of a new version, only to immediately eat disappointment. I've always loved the initiative they had in creating a safe space for artists given how most platforms are going to sh!t, but idk man.

In any case, I'm going back to my corner on twt, IG and bsky lol. I shall be waiting for news but will stop checking every 2 days if I can upload a banner or simple image

  • sorry to ride the criticism train, but this site is really giving stock social media site with inkblot's name slapped on it, it's honestly creeping me out a little

what bothers me mostly is how it doesn't at all feel focused on art anymore - you're encouraged to say "what's on your mind" with attachments as an afterthought. the wording of "photos" over "art"? reactions? (genuine question: do people like emoji reaction systems? they're fun on discord, but it feels... odd here (and to state the obvious, very facebook)) and why do profile galleries come after FOLLOWERS? what's the point of an art website where it feels that people's galleries are being hidden away? with all due respect, the redesign has a lot of things that just feel wrong about it

  • New Version Number who dis?

I'm lowkey just waiting for *any* deviantArt-like: (Inkblot, Artfol, SheezyArt, Cara) to make artists STOP *ONLY* posting onto general-purpose, timeline-only sites.

It's harder to go through and consume a lot of art on those.

Not used to the Facebook-y UI of Inkblot 2.0, as… I've been a chronic and intentional Facebook avoider all my life, but we'll see.

  • I've been thinking about this for a bit, but many of the design choices that came with this 2.0 update are... baffling, to say the least? The site is actually usable now (it barely worked for me before), but it feels like another Facebook/Twitter clone, rather than an art site. I'll continue to observe how things develop but I'm not sure I'm convinced yet.

I also wanted to test uploading art here but I quite literally can't, I get an error every time.

  • NGL after 4 years it looks like a combination of Twitter and Facebook. I thought it was gonna be like old DA and more suited for artists? There’s no gallery, just a photo page like Facebook. The more I explore this site the more I’m turned off by it.

    What happened and why?

I liked the other layout better.

    For comparison: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWg1_XEEOK4

  • Oh god... What even happened here? We went from an art site to a facebook clone?

All my artwork is out of order, my page doesn't even feel like an art site gallery, the front page is just another scrolling timeline where everything is massive and built with only mobile users in mind... I have to scroll endlessly to see any new artwork, hidden among people's status posts...

No way to browse just artwork outside of tags. No way to see a tile of recently uploaded artwork. At least as far as I can tell. Clicking on trending tags brings me to yet another timeline scroll, which isn't even centered on desktop. It's aligned to the left with a lot of dead space on the right that is just... empty.

Yeah no. This website is not for me. This isn't an art site. ("Photos" instead of "Gallery"???) It's yet another generic social media clone. Sorry, but that's not what I'm interested in. I don't know why there's such a push for every new site having a mobile-centric UI, even on desktop, designed to keep you scrolling forever on your phone. It is *so clunky* to use on desktop. It's so easy to miss new art uploads, because you can't view thumbnails on a grid. Discoverability becomes tied to how often people share your pieces around.

I'm just tired, man. Maybe I'm just getting old and exhausted from trying out so many new "art sites". The way artwork is displayed and discovered is one of the most important things to me. I want to be able to open the front page, and see a grid of new artwork, where I can select multiple tabs to open and browse at my leisure. I want my profile to have my art be the focus. I don't need everything to try to function like bluesky or twitter, and if this is the direction inkblot is going to go, then well... I don't think I'll be giving it another chance.

So if anyone who happened to follow me here (I can see my follower count got wiped anyway) wants to see what sort of art I'm doing now, please check out any of my other social links here:

    https://runicillusionist.carrd.co/

I hope for those of you who do intend on staying that this site serves your needs better than mine. But for me, I'm out.

EDIT: WHY IS THE WEBSITE CARD LINK SO BIG!???

[ID: First image: A page of traditional drawings made with the artist's non-dominant hand. The lines are all squiggly, but confident nonetheless. Two of these doodles portray a person without a face, and in one of them they are pulling on a string hung from the ceiling with force. There's also another drawing, but this time it's of a big bell.

Second image: A traditional sketch made with the artist's non-dominant hand. There are two drawings, one of a person with their face covered looking over their shoulder, and another of an arm holding a thin pen. The person's bony back is visible, and their right arm is obscured by their torso.

Third image: A traditional sketch in red ink, which was made with the artist's non-dominant hand. There are three squiggly drawings of a faceless person, their face hidden behind a geometrical shape. The drawings depict them down on the floor, avoiding eye contact, and throwing their hands in the air to make unknown signs respectively.

Final image: A traditional sketch in red ink made with the artist's non-dominant hand. It depicts a person without a face doing a peace sign close to the viewer. There's text behind them that reads: Share your beautiful unemployed soul to the world and let it change the color of the seas. End ID]

  • dont mind me, just trying out the schedule feature w these two :-)

[ID: A four panel sketch comic of our characters Peseta and Rukhsar when they were alive.

First panel: Both of them are on the street taking a stroll, as Peseta puts his hand on his inner jacket's pocket and says: 'Yeah, I call the $1 bill 'the diet dollar' because it's such a tiny amount of money to me'. Peseta looks smug and Rukhsar looks right at him with a smile on her face.

Second panel: Peseta takes out his flip-phone from his pocket and a dime falls out.

Third panel: The dime rolls over Peseta and ends up falling trough a nearby sewer.

Fourth panel: Peseta loses his confidence as he watches the sewer eat the dime, yelling "Noooo!" with visible sweatdrops on his face. He swiftly regains his composure after the fact and turns to Rukhsar again in an attempt to reconquer her by saying that it was an heirloom. End ID]

  • Imma go nuts about The Mandalorian AU! :Dc
    (Keeping this short for now.)

So, Akumu is obviously in this AU cuz there’s magic. There is Jeti temples but their abilities is strictly telepathic and simple levitation spells. This is true for most species. There is no dragocian Jeti, although, but they can use these abilities through other means, like technology-wise. Akumu, like all other Royal Dragocians are considered advanced mages with their own title, “Guardian.”

The rest of the subspecies (Northern, Winter, Desert, etc) has an ability to use elemental magic but it depends on their energy levels. Some can use many different types of spells and does not tire quickly. But some can only use low energy spells. (Royal Dragocians are a good exception to this. They have a crystal in their chest, which allows them to store huge amount of energy for use.) Other species can use magic to a certain extent but it depends on the location. Some planets carry more energy than the others. If that planet does not carry any energy, magic use will be much harder and the magic user will have to rely on their own energy to use.

Royal Dragocians are extremely powerful beings that can wield high energy magic spells. But they are not exactly common to see on Altea and other worlds. Since they are considered the guardians of the world, they would be considered leaders (if they proved themselves worthy of leaderships.) They can main in one or two specific elements. They are also the only species that can fly and use dragon fire. (Din had a blast finding that out in the hardest possible way. Akumu flew up and asked him to follow. Guess what he did? He jumps a few inches off the ground, just like Grogu did. Akumu had to do a bit of encouraging to teach him how to fly.) Royal Dragocians can be compared to a Jeti but their power level is far from them and does not use a lightsaber as a main weapon. Magic is all they need as a weapon.

Certain elements can be dangerous to wield and can be extremely difficult to use. Elements such as pure crystals, air, metal, and few others are harder to master. (With a exception of Din, apparently. He had a easier time using crystal spells more than anything else. Which is extremely surprising to Akumu. It took her years to learn and master it.)

    Back to the Jeti!
Jeti cannot use any magical spells, due to a strange energy type they use. You can say that they are more attuned to nature than anything. Dragocians usually refers them as Animal Whisperers since they can communicate to any wildlife easily. (Dragocians cannot communicate with wildlife but Royal Dragocians can.)
Since the empire rises, their temple fell and scattered. There are hardly any Jeti anywhere but there are a few known living Jeti.

    A bit about Grogu:
Grogu may be the last of their kind but that cannot be confirmed since what they are. He is a Celestial Dragon that lives among the stars. In his past, he was taken before he hatched and he then was raised on Coruscant. But due to the rise of empire, his “training” was incomplete and his identity remained a secret until about 40 years later. The Lost Empire was searching for him to use him to create their own army of Dragocians and mages. It is said that his scales can make anyone a temporary mage and it is said that a drop of his blood can turn anyone into a half Dragocian, permanently. This allows them to use magic a bit more efficiently. Grogu knows what he really is but chose to keep that to himself, even from his Buir. (His father, Din.)

    A bit about Din Djarin:
Din Djarin is a natural born Royal Dragocian and he never knew what he was until after the battle of the Pike on Tatooine. A voice called out to him and guided him to crush that one droid using magic. Since that was his first time using magic, it did tire him out pretty quick. After that battle, he decided to seek out the people like him. Sure enough, he found them and his living family. Akumu is his biological mother, hence the last name,’ Djarin.’ Akumu knew who he is the moment he got closer to his homeworld, Altea.

(Altea is a planet, which is located far from the outer rims. It is more isolated than other systems. Akumu is the current Queen and rules over the entire systems, several systems actually.)

There, he finds more mandalorians (that are willing to follow him as Manda’lor.) and ended up training there for a few years. He now follows his own Mandalorian way AND super OP with magic. (Grogu did not see him until after the siege of Mandalore.) Needless to say, he may learn pretty quick but magic is not easy to use. (Pretty much explodes in his face a few times.) After a few years, he goes and looks for Bo-Katan and her group. During that time, Bo-Katan spent these time seeking out more Mandalorians to join the cause, to reclaim what was lost to them. The moment he arrives, everyone was pretty hesitant to follow his lead but Din proved himself as a worthy Manda’lor in time. :3c

After aaaaallll that, Din and Grogu finally reunited. You bet Grogu was so happy to see his Buir again and sees him actually accepting of who he is. Din was so excited to show him everything as well. From magic he learned to the places he explored.

But it’s not over yet. They still gonna worry about the Lost Empire after all that events that happened. :,D Which is still incomplete series rn. (I’m still writing all the stories and doodling some cute/full of action scenes.)

(I would be happy to answer any questions if needed. I love talking about all this. :,D This also goes to my other OCs too!)
