This red panda has had a stressful week and decides to take a nap on a log, but first sees a butterfly.

Going through my old artwork at the time reminded me of something that was said about me a long time ago:

"If it's not a fox or a dragon, I don't think she could do it."

This isn't a phrase that haunts me, nor am I an advocate for spite as a prime motivator for making art (okay, maybe a little bit), but I did reflect on things a bit while making this.

I've had a long history of focusing on one or two subjects in my work, especially when I was still in public school. I even gained some notoriety as "the dragon artist" during this time, and while I wear that title proudly, my ideas have more variety than I ever could have hoped for, especially back then. I think that phrase stuck with me for this reason, along with it being from an unexpected source. I think this speaks to the evolution of not only my design work overall, but to the scope of my characters and stories.

While there certainly is merit to defying your naysayers, I wanted this to be a more positive reflection; a small sample of what I am capable of now, a mix of old and new. Yes a dragon, a fox, an owl, a cat, not the least bit unexpected. But there's so much more. You want a butterfly-moth hybrid that can wield a bow and arrow? A sea monster queen with rainbow hair? A spunky shapeshifter with a tiger arm? Either way, I got you. B)

Artfight 2023 revenge for Strassa!

I've been trying to draw more ponies! I think I'm improving but they're still pretty difficult for me! This was for Strassa for her pegasus with butterfly wings!

Spring has sprung around the Mushroom Kingdom. Flowers are blooming everywhere, in the village, and around the castle. Colorful flowers bloom around the entrance, as Mario and Peach gaze around at the colorful site. The princess made a crown made from the flowers as a little gift for Mario. As Mario gets up to stretch his body, a Butterfly flew by, gently landing on a blue tulip. Peach looks around and see the winged insect. She smiled as the Butterfly sips nectar from the flower.

With many insects returning, and flowers blooming, and trees growing leaves, it looks like that spring is officially back!

Another old sketch I decided to clean up and color. I was imaging Black Butterfly and Calamity crashing a masquerade in celebration for the Green Thumb as civilians. When I eventually flesh out their story, I really want to incorporate this as a scene. Who doesn't love the drama?
