  • Throughout the ages, the humans have long wondered what is up here. Various cultures have very different and often conflicting beliefs about this place. Some boldly state this mountain to be the throne of the gods. Others believe it to be a place filled with monsters of an unfathomable nature. Well, I come up here all the time and I never see anybody. No gods. No monsters. Not even the hardiest mountain goats make the trek. It's just me. Personally, I enjoy the solitude, the peace, and the quiet. It's a great place to just sit and think about things.

    Speaking of which....

There's a human expedition down below. They're a curious group. Curious, yes! They're like me. They want to know what is up here. I want to know what they'll think when they get up here.... if they get up here, that is. No, no, I won't eat them. Not those humans. They're in no danger from me. They're too interesting. It is, however, quite a treacherous journey for those who cannot fly.

What will they think if they get up here? What will they see? What will they write about? After all, from here you can see the world is indeed round. Spherical. Not flat. You can go all the way around it and arrive back where you started! I've yet to make such a flight, but I will one day. Will they notice the roundness? Will the other humans believe them? I do wonder this, and I want to watch what happens.

    ...

The weather below is quite intense. I do hope the humans are alright, though I must not help them. After all, I'd just affirm their belief that there are indeed monsters up here. That's often what they believe of me anyways. I'll just sit here and watch. Watch, and wait. Wait, and think. It is quite a nice, sunny day up here and the warmth of the sun feels so nice. After all, it never rains above the clouds.

  • It looks like Detestation has caught a Yellow Jumpie! It will surely be delicious.

I'm trying to improve on drawing pictures that take me a matter of hours, rather than weeks or months, to complete. This is one of my first. My other pictures in my gallery took me an extremely long time to create, and I think I may end up growing more as an artist if I let loose a bit and draw without taking so long.

  • Flying is just something I do. It’s something I do all the time, every day, sometimes even for the entire day. It’s just normal to me. I fly to get where I want to go, to spot things to catch and eat, to explore, to see above the horizon, to feel safe, and, most importantly, because I enjoy it. I really never thought a whole lot about what it’d be like to not be able to fly.

But what if I couldn’t fly? I see creatures on the ground all the time. Do they want to fly? Do they think about it? I’d never really thought about whether or not they thought about it either, until….

This human. He was trying to fly. Today, I saw him. He had wings. Dragon wings! Well, kind of… His dragon wings weren’t nearly as nice as mine and I know they’re not going to work because there’s no way a human is going to flap these dragon wings, but I’ve never seen a human try this before. He must want to fly, like, really, really want to fly. He wants to fly like dragons do. That is fascinating.

So, when I saw him, I landed a ways away and snuck over. Unfortunately, I’m huge, and he saw me. I just wanted to see what he was doing with those dragon wings of his but he ran from me. So rude! Oh I wouldn’t do anything horrible like eat him…. Nah. Not this one. I will guiltily admit, however, I trotted after him for a little while and roared a few times just to be extra scary.

He left this book though. I kind of … uhh… also admit I scared him away on purpose to get the book. Shhh, don’t tell anybody. It’s a really, really good one though. The pages are so nice and crisp. It’s got that wonderful new book ink smell. And what’s inside….. Wow! Guides on how to make dragon wings. Oh this is going to be one of my favorite books.

  • Cleafspear the blacksmith has us covered! Need some new belly plate armor? Or how about some ankle guards. Well, he offers the finest in dragon-forged, dragon armor, made by a dragon, for dragons!

Now, you may be wondering why a big and tough dragon like yourself may need silly armor on top of your glorious scales. Well, there’s something evil out there. Something more sinister than one could almost imagine. That’s right. There are fairies out there, and they are super effective versus our kind.

Cleafspear offers armor that lets you use new moves! Moves such as Steel Wing and Iron Tail can leave fairies crushed into oblivion all the while protecting you from their horrible fairy-typed attacks.

If you're a dragon type, you may want to consider having a suit on stand-by, just in case.

  • I will fly forever and ever to see how far the horizon goes.

I didn't intend for this to turn into a stand-alone artpiece when I started. It's a wide panel from another comic I'd started working on, but the comic wasn't flowing as well as I liked and I liked this panel a lot, so I decided to fully render it and do all the scales and nice lighting and make it a stand-alone piece.

I really wanted to draw a picture showing my dragon wing muscles from the front, as I put a lot of thought and effort into making a nice, well-attached wing that looked supportive of the torso. All the muscles are planned out. My arm shoulders are subtle, but at the bottom behind my frill you can see them. My arms and legs are facing backwards against my body (you can't see them here) so they don't interfere with aerodynamics.

I'm really, really happy with this flight pose and, generally, how flight-capable this pose looks.

  • It took me a long time to figure out what kind of breath attack I have, but finally after some intense contemplation I arrived at having an electric-typed breath attack!

I decided to draw a comic strip about this. It sounded like a lot of fun but wow, drawing comics is quite tough! It gave me a lot of practice drawing facial expressions and sketching dragon heads, which was something I really wanted to practice as well. I had a ton of fun doing this!

Unfortunately, I'm not very good at using my breath attack. This comic strip demonstrates my new-found power.

  • So… I flew far. Really, really far. In fact, I think I may have gone further than ever this time. Not to worry, though, I know where I am, or, well, I’ll know where I am again tonight. After all, the dots in the sky, the stars! Yes! Every night they tell me exactly where I am, and I’m way past the edges of any map I’ve ever seen.

This place, it’s strange. It’s like no place I’ve seen before. The water here is so warm, so clear, and it’s so full of life. The sun, it’s so strong. It feels incredible across my back, and across my wings it feels absolutely amazing. It rises so high in the sky and it sets so fast. This further confirms it to be true. This world is round after all, and this place is indeed nearing the center of the roundness. Wow, I’ve gone so far! I almost can’t believe it.

But there may have been a problem. There was, for a little while. There’s not much land out here and all this flying makes me quite hungry. I’ll admit, I was a tiny bit worried for a couple days. Thankfully, I found these fish. Big fish! I haven’t a clue what they’re called, but they have this beautiful yellow stripe along their backs. They like to surf the waves and the water is so clear they can be spotted from way up high in the sky. I figured out if I startle them with my wings right as the wave gets ready to fall, they get spooked and jump right out of the water. Maybe I’ll call them Yellow Jumpies. The Yellow Jumpies are hard to catch and it really pushes my flying skills to the limit, but after a bit of practice I think I’m getting the hang of it. It’s not my usual diet, but it’ll do. Besides, this is quite fun.

Tomorrow, I’ll continue. I’ll push myself to fly as long as I can, as far as I can. I wonder what’s beyond the next little island. Will there be another little island? A big island? Will there be more Yellow Jumpies? What if there are no jumpies… no island … what if there’s something else, something … scary. Yes! That’s part of the fun.
