Leo, Latin for lion, is the fifth sign in the Zodiac, named for the constellation of the same name. The constellation itself is associated with the mythological figure of the Nemean lion, and is prominent in Greek mythology. Egyptian mythology associated the constellation, Knem, with the regular flooding of the Nile, signifying a strong harvest.

I adored painting this guy - even if he gave me some anxiety when it came time to paint the armor. I was going for a leather look, and the first time around I think I tried to make it look too "worn" and it came out looking more like stone. With the shape of the pieces and the detail work on them, I decided to scrap the worn look and go with a nice, shiny leather look instead. I think it came out really good! As with the others in this Zodiac project, my Leo friends picked the color palette - I did have to cut down on a few colors that just were not working after I put them in my mock up sketch, but I tried to keep the Orange (Leo's power color according to the internet) front and center, as well as the teal, green, and black that were chosen. Both Gemini and Cancer were very cool-color centric, so it was nice to come in and do some warm tones; especially since Leo is a fire sign.

Personally I had a lot of laughs painting him up as his upper teeth were a separate piece (and one of the last I glued in) so he looked like he was missing his dentures for a while :3

This is my 3rd completed mini from start to finish in as many months (Originally posted July 23rd, 2022) - I am painting my way through the entire Zodiac, so if you like what you see and want to see as the other signs come out, give me a fav and a follow, and I'd love to hear from you!
