Quodilus Maris

The Maris are a spiritualist sect of outer solar system transhumans, comprised of two distinct subspecies, the subservient Quodilus (Quos) and the socially dominant Telahus (Telas)

Unlike the Telahus, the Quodilus are all sterile females. This subservient subspecies was developed prior to the Telahus, a sort of prototype genome. Every member of the Quodilus species is purchased and developed in a lab according to the genome templates stored on Haumae. Because it takes almost twenty years for a Quodilus to mature, they are extremely expensive to produce. Thus, owning a Quodilus servant is seen as a major status symbol for any Telahus. It is uncommon to find a Telahus unattended by at least two Quos. Some of the most prominent members of the Telahus have scores of Quodilus in their estates, tending to them in public and promoting their status. The Quos themselves are designed from conception to be extremely loyal and docile, eagerly obeying the commands of their Telahus masters and participating in their astronomical beliefs.

Naturally, there are critics to the Maris culture. Many baseline humans use the term “designer slaves” when describing the Quodilus. However, the Quodilus themselves resist this perception. Members of the species find satisfaction only in the successes of their Telahus masters and exercising their religious views. A Quodilus without a Telahus is considered a social anomaly, as a Quodilus can only be honorable through service to their sect and the Maris religion.
