Cancer is the fourth astrological sign in the zodiac, taking place between June 22nd and July 22nd. The constellation of Cancer is sometimes depicted as a lobster or crayfish, but most often represents the crab, based on Karkinos, or Karka in Hindu mythology. In Egyptian myth, the constellation was also seen as a scarab beetle.

I love the concept of this sculpt, though I do wish the arrangement gave the crab a little more "face time" - I decided not to glue either figure to the base so that I can remove the woman when I want to show off the crab itself. I tried to step a bit more out of my painting comfort zone again on this sculpt with some more "obvious" highlighting - I am typically a very gradient-happy, smooth transition kinda shader, but something about the fabric and the way it was gathered made me want to give it a little extra oomph. I'm also super excited that my fluorescent paints from the same Kickstarter that the figure came from were extremely see-through when painted on, because it gave me this amazing opportunity to paint as I pleased as normal, then go back and add the fluor paint on top without really having to worry about the blue covering up the silver in the regular light.

This is the second sign posted in my Zodiac project, originally on June 22nd, 2022
