Wow. It's so hard to believe that the first month of the year went by so quickly while also having so much happen at the same time. Some good, some bad, and some... Let's just say is really ugly. I'll start by talking about the bad first, just to get it out of the way.
- So Wizards of the Coast did a lot of trolling this month by screwing over all DnD fans alike. They wanted to find a way to make DnD more "Marketable" but their way of doing so was harmful at best and very harmful at that. I have a friend group who are extremely passionate about DnD to the point where they have home brewed their own systems and put in so much time and effort into making their campaigns feel like breath-taking experiences. So when the announcement came up that their projects were at risk of getting potentially copyright claimed by WotC themselves, we were all pissed. Thankfully WotC backed out of this plan due to the heavy amounts of backlash (good), but I'm also worried that they may try something like this again in the future, so I have my eyes on them...
- Devsisters of Cookie Run did another shitty thing! ... Again. Honestly, not surprised at this point. As much as I love the character designs and aesthetic of these games, I just can't be bothered to care about anything Cookie Run anymore. It's one of the very rare cases where a hyperfixation I used to have is just kinda dead now, and the more I look back at it, the more I feel like my opinion on this franchise is only gonna sour with due time.
- Anxieties really got to me this month and gave me a constant state of dread for a week. My body felt like it was in a constant state of adrenaline rush, I was very shaky, and my brain would rush with so many intrusive and anxious thoughts, many of which preying on my own fears of... a lot of things, including my major fear of losing everyone I love. I am in a better state of mind now. However, in a tragic form of irony, my fears ended up becoming somewhat of a reality when not long after, many people I really loved and cared about would all be struck by vehicle accidents. Jemibuni, who's been a major influence for me to stay creative and positive was struck by a car but is thankfully recovering well from it. However, another tragedy would strike me again that same day when news came by that one of my favorite Youtubers, Schaffrillas Productions, had also been struck by unfortunate circumstances. James managed to survive, but Chris and Patrick had unfortunately passed away due to this incident. My condolences goes to everyone affected by this. Believe me, I am still very sad that all of this happened.
Fortunately, a lot of good did happen this month, and I don't wanna just brush it off because of the negatives.
- There's a lot of cool new media to look forward to this year. Some I'm really excited for personally are the new Gooseworx cartoon being produced by Glitch Productions (who you may know for making Meta Runner and Murder Drones both really good shows IMO), there's the playable ENA Dream BBQ being worked on, Owl House finale, and lots of cool indie games that look really fun to try out, and speaking of...
- I finally got the opportunity to play Dust: An Elysian Tail after almost a full decade of wanting to but not getting to do so and I LOVE THE HELL OUTTA THIS GAME OH MY GOD!! IT TAKES ME BACK TO THE ERA WHERE I WAS FIRST GETTING FULLY INVESTED INTO ART AND MY INNER FURRY SIMPS SO HARD FOR DUST- Ahem... Yeah. Really good game. Also watched Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and cried a lot, 100/10, really good movie.
- I've been taking better care of myself this month. I'm hanging out with family more often, cooking (and feeding) myself more often, and just in general doing more self indulgent things like projects I'm passionate about, playing more video games, and watching comfort shows like Wow Wow Wubbzy and Dorohedoro of all juxtaposing things. Definitely some highlights of the month for me is getting a full furry hyperfixation for characters like Walden and Dust (I'm an anomaly with very interesting tastes), playing co-op games with my mom like Terraria and Overcooked 2, and trying some cool dessert recipes like these Oreo cheesecake bites my brother made and Peanut Butter Chocolate Pancakes I made.
So yeah, that was pretty much a summary of my month. I feel very conflicted about things. On one end, a lot of good things really did happen this month, but the bad was also REALLY BAD and I have nothing but empathy for everyone that had it rough the start of this year, including James and Jenna. I hope you two best of wishes for your recoveries.
And hopefully the next month, things get a little better.
