  • This was a commission I made for a friend/guildmate of his asura engineer in Guild Wars 2 some years ago now. All I remember was him requesting snow truffles be in the picture somehow.

  • I drew this over the summer and then never posted it because I kinda just forgot to? Social media is tiring and hard to keep up with frankly

Anyway summer is over but the vibes are not. Please enjoy my bois from my webcomic, Apocalypse Child, enjoying the last of summer.

  • There's this artist (oxboxer) I used to follow who was really good at drawing human forms in this very smooth geometric style and I just loved them

Anyway I remember wanting to try something in the same vein and so I made this small doodle in my school notes years ago of Thunder in a general box form. The geometric styling is very much not there but I liked the drawing so much I made it a proper illustration back in December of 2020. And here it is!

The original version was nude. Spicy? No, you don't see jack, but I made the clothed version just in case.

These days I think I'm more fond of the clothed version actually, but the original I think calls on my OC Thunder's feral nature a lot more clearly.

The character depicted here is Thunder, the main character of my modern fantasy webcomic about the end of the world: [Apocalypse Child](https://apocalypsechildcomic.com/).

  • Here's fake book cover number 2!

Book two involved a lot of travel through the desert, hence the billowing sand in the background.

Anyone remember that pic I made of Thunder licking blood off his arm? Here's that shirt he was wearing again. Actually, the shirt, necklace, and dog tags Thunder wears all belong to a pretty central character to book 2: Rio Tanfari (you can't read it at this size, but it is technically written on the dog tags).

The back of the cover utilized wounds on Thunder's arms to draw a face of how he actually feels in book 2. There's a strange spellbind stuck on his right arm, and he's holding what some of you may recognize as Buzz's cellphone! All of this was relevant to the plot of book 2 but that's so far away, who knows how much of this will remain relevant.

  • Awhile back on stream, a viewer made a joke about drawing Buzz as a Sailor Scout. I don't remember the context, but I was inspired, and I was originally going to do a set of all three of Apocalypse Child's protags in Naoko Takeuchi's style.

Then I ran out of steam after doing just Thunder. It was fun though! Maybe I'll come back to it and complete the set.

I gotta say Thunder's dead eyes don't suit shoujo style very much. I tried to make it work but eye shines and Thunder don't mix well.

Anyway, I have since thought about how absolutely horrifying Thunder would be as a Sailor Scout: he has little tolerance for villain monologues, frequently chooses violence as a solution, and would very likely forget he has any sort of cosmic power before going after people with his fists. I don't even think he'd wait to finish transforming before jumping into combat.

He would be an absolute terror, and this delights me.

  • This was drawn after writing the first draft for either chapter 15 or 16 of my webcomic, [Apocalypse Child](https://apocalypsechildcomic.com/). I really just wanted to draw the (frightening!) dynamic between the two characters here (Jahl and Thunder) for fun. I think it'd make for a great cover for that chapter when we get there but it's so far away that I'll probably change my mind by the time I get there.

Does that mean this drawing is a bit spoilery? Yeah a lil, but honestly I'm sure people will forget about it by the time it's relevant.

Jahl here won't even be seen until chapter 6, I believe. We might get glimpses of him earlier? I'll have to check the scripts again.

Anyway, the only explanation I'm going to give to this image for now is that these two end up fighting in a city during a major heatwave, and the hunter becomes the hunted real quick. The title "Good Boy" references the seemingly sadistic turn this battle takes as well as the theme of the chapter, which is examining Thunder's grey morality.

I am literally not at all concerned that anyone will remember this by the time we get there haha

  • About a decade ago, when I really started getting serious about world-building for Apocalypse Child, I started a project for myself creating fake book covers for the series. Back then it was planned as a trilogy of novels, rather than an online graphic novel, so I was going to make 3 covers. I only ended up finishing 2 with this one being the first.

The idea behind the covers was meant to utilize how deadpan/emotionless our protagonist Thunder is, with each new book reflecting a change in environment but with Thunder looking exactly the same. The back cover would then reveal some aspect of the true nature of how Thunder feels in that book (or is thought to feel).

For book 1, the story starts in winter, hence the winter coat and chilly background. The back of the book has Thunder using the hands of Buzz and Frostroy to cover his eyes: the eyes painted on their hands symbolizing how the two characters view Thunder (Frostroy sees him as a monster, and Buzz sees him as a helpless child).

I still like the concept behind these book covers, and they were some of my most impressive paintings for a long time. The way I draw Thunder has changed dramatically since these were made though.

  • I wanted to draw something fun for myself, and Thunder is my fav subject.

Thunder is a hunter, taught how to do so by his spirit creature mother, Takayle. Finding him bloody after a hunt isn't uncommon, which is where the idea for this picture came from.

The final picture ended up slightly hornier than I intended? but whatever, I'm happy with it. I had fun.

(Random fun fact: the shirt he's wearing actually belongs to a bigger character named Rio. We're not gonna see Rio for a really long ass time though)

If you don't recognize any of these character names, they're from my modern fantasy webcomic about the end of the world: [Apocalypse Child](https://apocalypsechildcomic.com/)
