Kicking off my InkBlot with some pretty old fan art I did that I'm still reasonably happy with. This is a painting I did in May of 2019 of Morrigan from the Dragon Age franchise, based on an incredible cosplay by twitter user [Ciryadien](https://twitter.com/Ciryadien). Like many artists, backgrounds were a thing I struggled with for a long time, and still do to some extent. I was clearly trying to get out of my comfort zone with this piece, and there's some things I would do differently now. But I'm still extremely happy with all of the fabrics on Morrigan herself.Kicking off my InkBlot with some pretty old fan art I did that I'm still reasonably happy with. This particular piece was a commission from someone in a facebook nerd group. Originally I had intended to do just a bust, but the outfit I came up with after staring at pinterest ref for hours was irresistible. I particularly like how the fabric came out. Looking back, this was the first TTRPG commission I did that ended up kicking off a long stream of them. I owe a lot to both Aloy and to this piece in terms of my current success. This particular piece was a commission from someone in a facebook nerd group. This painting was based on a photo I took of my now-wife during a date back in September 2019. I'm particularly proud of the different color palette I used, which I think gave everything a more old Hollywood vibe. My wife constantly inspires me, whether it is inspiring me to make new art, push the boundaries of my art, or simply get out of bed when I'm having a terrible day. This painting was based on a photo I took of my now-wife during a date back in September 2019. Back in November 20202, I started playing Horizon Zero Dawn again to show my loved ones who haven't seen or played it yet. I'd forgotten how much I adore Aloy and this game. I was in a bit of a creative funk at the time, so my wife recommended I start sketching traditionally again to practice. This was the first thing I sketched, and my wife loved it so much they told me to paint it! The response this piece has gotten on social media blew me away, and I still look back on it extremely fondly.Back in November 20202, I started playing Horizon Zero Dawn again to show my loved ones who haven't seen or played it yet. This was the first piece I painted after I did a study of some of Takumi Wada's Breath of the Wild promotional art. I tried to take from that study his economy of rendering and mix in some of my own personal love for highly detail faces. While I don't necessarily think I succeeded in emulating Wada's style, I am happy with how the piece came out overall. Looking back with another two years of painting under my belt, there's definitely things I would do differently now. And maybe I will! This was the first piece I painted after I did a study of some of Takumi Wada's Breath of the Wild promotional art. It's weird to think not only that this painting is fromnearly three years ago, but that I can see ways in which I might improve it even now. But It's not helpful to dwell on the past. Fire Emblem: Three Houses was easily my Game of the Year for 2019/2020 and I wanted to paint a portrait of my favorite lord to celebrate it. This piece draws inspiration in many ways from a royal portrait of the late Queen Elizabeth II by the late Leonard Boden. It's weird to think not only that this painting is fromnearly three years ago, but that I can see ways in which I might improve it even now. this is another D&D character, this time for my wife! At the time I was painting them, Asmoryn was our party's primary martial character, whose prowess with a bow is unparalleled. I based this one off of an iconic photo of former President Obama grabbing a beer at a brewery.this is another D&D character, this time for my wife! This is the last piece I was working on before I moved from Michigan to southern California, and the first piece I finished in the new apartment. I love so much about this piece still, especially Meg's face and some of the texture details. But this was absolutely a piece that made me realize I was spending far too much time on background and unimportant details. I personally have sunk more hours into this game than I care to count... I wanted to paint something that captured the complicated relationship between Zagreus and Megaera. Spoilers: It's very horny. This is the last piece I was working on before I moved from Michigan to southern California, and the first piece I finished in the new apartment. Sometimes you work really hard on a bunch of personal projects, and then you decide that what you really need is to do something shamelessly self-indulgent. I love demon girls so much. I especially enjoyed giving her a punk-y hair style. As a proud owner of a side-shave, I like to give them to my characters too. I was enamored with the lighting in my reference photo, and purple is my favorite color, so all in all, working on this piece was a delight.Sometimes you work really hard on a bunch of personal projects, and then you decide that what you really need is to do something shamelessly self-indulgent. I painted this Tifa during the height of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake hype despite the fact that I've neither finished the original FF7, nor the remake. This was a fun challenge in perspective and I appreciate the detail I went into on some of the textures for Tifa's outfit. I remember asking my friend (or maybe my partner? I forget now), who had FF7R, to get a bunch of screenshots of the bar so I could do the background justice. This was still in the phase where I was insisting on super elaborate backgrounds and not really knowing how much detail to put in, or what could reasonably be just roughly painted.I painted this Tifa during the height of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake hype despite the fact that I've neither finished the original FF7, nor the remake.
