"There's a reason Issukangitaaq is called the Land of Eternal Night. The constant darkness keeps the northern lands frozen with little light to guide hunters and wanderers. The Inuktaaq built statues out of light crystals to guide their way home."

Been a while since I worked on anything for my project, so here's some world building. Doubled as background practice since that's something I need to work on. :P

Not sure how many times I went over the sky with the black and blue but I'm happy how the colours came out, though I may need a new white pen. Maybe I'll do more like this with the other characters. Maybe with Phoenix...

  • And now for something new lol

Given the things that Azu has gone through, she can be a bit fragile at times. Fortunately she finds a confidant in the form of a certain puffball.

Ever just lay in a field in the pouring rain and just contemplate life?

Bit of a one off comic I started last year. Wasn't feeling my best at the time, so I decided to draw a moody Azura as a way to vent, but never finished 'til now.

But lately I've been thinking of going down the webcomic route. I was gonna make this project into a game at first, but after making this little practice page and writing up some of the story (plus me being bit of a control freak) I think it'd better suit a comic of sorts.

Also this was my first time drawing grass and rain and I'm honestly pretty happy with how it all turned out!

I have another more lighthearted mini comic planned, so that'll be a thing. x3

Despite being one of the most powerful countries in all on Mayoniki, Maedori is still a small sky country with limited space. Instead of burying their dead they burn them. Lower class citizens get make shift pyres while nobles get permanent, familial pyres. After all, Maedori is the land of the rising flames.

Similar to the one I did with Siku, I decided to do some more world building with Phoenix. To me, burying people on a sky island makes no sense, especially a small one. You're just gonna run out of room eventually. The pyres also tie into the mythology of Maedori too, since their goddess is considered the original Phoenix, which... Phoenix Ambrosia here is named after.

First up is Azura Fox! A total troublemaker with control over water.

"The charismatic (and rude) 16 year old leader of the group and the Cyndædel’s most wanted criminal. Being orphaned at 8 years old, she and her siblings were adopted by pirates and brought to a small island called Haven. While very extroverted, Azura tends to be very secretive and despondent at times."

That's all I'll say about Azu herself for now, but I'll end this with some general world information.

There are two races: Crystalborn and Aborn. Crystalborn have the ability to manipulate elements and cast magic whereas the Aborn cannot. Because of this, most Aborn see the Crystalborn as a threat and have found ways to decrease their numbers.

Might end all of these with a bit of trivia...

    Any feedback is appreciated! :3

  • The troublemaking Azura seems to have fallen into the arms of Siku, thee newest... "recruit" on the O'Malley.

He's a little awkward and easily flustered. Not that Azu minds~

A redux of my original Whirlpool piece. Been a while since I've done any watercolour so this was a good chance to improve a piece from 2017.

This week's reveal comes in the form of the angry puffball, Siku Tireganierk.

"A hot headed hunter from the icy land of Issukangitaaq with a strong dislike for strangers. Being a member of the last known Inuktaaq tribe, as well as being hunted down his whole life, Siku has the unfortunate tendency to jump to conclusions regarding outsiders. Things change when a certain Cyndelian who insists on calling him 'Fluffy' washes ashore."

I'm not overly familiar with the Inuit language but I made absolutely sure to cross check my references. "Issukangitaaq" for example, is supposed to be a portmanteau of the words for "eternal" and "darkness." There's an in universe reason for this, trust me. If anyone notices any mistakes, please let me know! Anyway...

Tonight's trivia is... a bit darker, but it does also tie into Siku's backstory so...

It’s incredibly difficult to tell an Ice Crystalborn apart from an Inuktaaq Aborn. As a result the Inuktaaq population has been cut down immensely by Cyndædel under Fontaine rule.

Needless to say, the Fontaines were not the nicest people but are incredibly important story wise.

Next is little miss Donna Blitz! The team peacekeeper and local gear head!
"Donna, the sweet little weapons smith of the group, was born and raised on Haven. While she may be physically weak, her wit, electric powers, and custom bow get the job done. She seems to have an affinity for the colour red and becomes flustered when asked about the red feathers on her arrows."

I've decided that the little world blurbs should be at least somewhat relevant to each character, so here's some tech talk!

While technology may not yet be common place in the world of Mayoniki, it is advancing at a steady pace thanks to the utilization of crystals. The sky country Maedori was once the leader in innovation before the destruction of its capitol city, Pyrrhica.

  • ~Slightly old: Originally finished March 25, 2021~

A much younger Alma and Azura helping their little brother, Silvio, walk. The wave coming in was bit of an after thought, but one I think works perfectly~

AKA "Pretty birb and smol birb" ...ALTERNATIVELY: "Aislinn doesn't know how to title things!" ...Yeah, I had no idea what to put...

This was pretty much a colouring test based on a specific scene in the story. This is only a tiny snippet but for context, this occurs after a mission. The main crew (minus Siku) are just waiting around when Phoenix brings up someone's faux pas. He's not the type to get angry, but if he thinks you've done something stupid, he'll tell you. Azura and Icarus, however, are the masters of getting on Phoenix's nerves. Needless to say, either Azu or Icarus having been testing Phoenix's patience to the point where Donna has to diffuse the situation.

Not the most engaging paragraph, I know, but if I were a better writer maybe I would have wrote something out. But alas, I prefer to describe things with colours and tell stories visually... In other words, I have no way with words.

The more I use this particular style, the more I prefer it over the the softer, more airbrush like style. I think I'm gonna keep it. I also wanted to try drawing these two next to each other because Phoenix is the tallest of the group and Donna. Is. TINY!

I'll have to try doing backgrounds more often, but for now, I'm satisfied with how it all turned out.
