    Featuring my boy Prince Charming

    ---
A little story to go with it!

Prince had a lot to say about being around this many mares. He loved it. Being the ladies man he is, he lapped up the attention and called out to every horse that walked by. Thankfully all naughty shenanigans were avoided, and Prince kept to himself. After hand grazing the stud and wishing good luck to Cai, Layla headed back to the trailer to make final preparations for her test tomorrow and get Prince an extra flake of hay for his temporary stable. After patting the stallion goodbye she headed back to the trailer and scrolled through Instagram for a while, liking posts and writing down matchy tack ideas for the horses. After a while Cai returned, however good – or bad – the test when he seemed pretty happy with Charlies performance.

“So, how’d it go?” she risked the question, Cai could be a little hard to read sometimes.

“It went ok, I could have done better but Charlie was wonderful” Cai smiled back at her, “he really had his game face on.”

“I should have come watched you!” she laughed.

“No! I’ve already got enough pressure from my parents and their not even here,” he laughed back, making a joke out of a now tense situation.

“Well I rekon’ it would have been and pretty good test none the less, you settle for only the best I’ve heard.” She smiled at him and ducked back into the trailer to check her phone.

Once Charlie had cooled off and had some hay to munch on she and Cai walked down to the temporary stables to get the horses their dinner. Once the boys were settled and rugged for the night they headed over to watch the last of the dressage rounds and decide on dinner. After deciding on Thai takeaway the pair sat quietly at the table, comfortable in each other’s presence. They made the executive decision to throw an image of the silly stallions up on CSS’s Instagram page and took some times to look at some tack set designs Sarah was designing for the stable. Anything to get Layla's mind off the test she was going to do tomorrow.

Featuring the boys Cai and CSS Cutthroat

    ---
    Another story!

As he tacked the stallion up Cai couldn’t help but feel a small tug of anxiety in his stomach. This wasn’t him; he didn’t get anxious. But he guessed horse shows could do that to you, as well as parental pressure. It was his first time out with Cutthroat and the young stallion was taking it in his stride with a few cheeky leaps along the way. He gave it to the CSS staff, they did well bringing up their horses, educating them and teaching them manners. He chose the young stallion himself; Charlie was an attractive horse strong build and eye-catching colour. It was a horse his parent would approve.

“There we go” Cai whispered as he straightened the crisp white saddle pad. Charlie curled his neck round in response, nosing Cai’s hip, looking for treats. Just as predicted Cai pulled a chunk of liquorice out of his pocket and held it out for the stallion, who munched on it gratefully before lifting his top lip up to smell the treat better. That got a smile out of Cai easing his anxiety a little and instilling confidence that even if the test went to rubbish, Charlie would come out smiling on the other side, and so would Cai.

Deeming it time to warm up Cai slipped the dressage bridle over his steeds head. Charlie took the bit keenly, eager to have something to chew on and something to do. As Cai hopped on, Layla came back from hand grazing her horse Prince, and gave him a little wave and a wish for good luck. He smiled back too anxious to say anything more and pushed Charlie forward to a walk, in what he assumed was the direction on the warm up area. He could feel his nerves getting to him and to his horse. Charlie became increasingly jittery with each step closer to the arena, feeding off Cai’s worries. Cai knew the stallion was sensible, he knew nothing serious would go wrong, hell he’s competed plenty of times before over in his home country. China wasn’t well known for its equestrianism but being raised on your rich families Thoroughbred stud will cause you to become horsey whether you like it or not. Thankfully Cai did. His family had old money and he was expected to live up to that life style. Shaking his head at an attempt clear his thoughts he lost himself in his surroundings. Swarms of riders and their steeds wandered around, some glammed up, others simply wondering or exercising. The property was beautiful, build in the 1830s it had a rustic yet very today feel. Almost like those Italian villas he saw while traveling though the area. Modern yet old, it had history and character.

Cai got closer to where everyone was warming up and begun the process of dodging people yet tying to get prepared. Charlie felt good, a little tense and jittery but Cai could tell the stallion was enjoying the scenery and company of so many other horses. Cai steeled himself and took a breath as he heard his number called.
