#DailySketch 16  Day 4 of #FFXVGirlsWeek ‘picking up a lost hobby’ #SoLuna HC: Before she ascended, Luna loved singing just to sing, but the weight of being the Oracle meant she had to put it aside except for holy rites. Sol’s guitar helped her rediscover her love.

I’m periodically working my way through the different annual forms for the Solunar Spirits, as only a few of them are relevant to the main story, i.e. the rabbit and of course, the dragon! I felt like drawing one of the cuter ones today so I went with 2020’s animal, the rat! :’D

Similar to the rabbits, it was an interesting challenge to adapt the dragons’ complex markings and colours onto a much smaller body, while still making sure they looked like the same characters. These two are some of the most complex designs for Starglass Zodiac, but I think that’s fitting for the reigning gods of this universe.

Whew, these took a while! Not really for the art itself but the concepts behind them, as it’s easy to go overboard with designs like these that are already combining so many things together.

Chimaera and Manticora are essentially the “pseudo-legendaries” of Starglass Zodiac, where they aren’t gods like the Solunar spirits but have similar power. The other constellations theorize that they could even challenge them in power, but are locked in a perpetual feud with each other instead, only stopping to rest and regenerate their energies. Should anyone attempt to stop their feud, however, the two will team up to eliminate said challenger and then resume fighting.

Design wise I’d say Manticora was harder to colour, as it was easy to clutter the design with too many markings while going for that “poisonous animal” look, but I wanted to maintain that striking colour scheme too. Who's your favourite? ;)
