• OhuHueVember Week 1 is Done! Ft. Johanna Basford’s 30 Days Of Flowers

In case you thought I forgot about this challenge: Nope! I decided early on it would be best for me to only do the *posts* once a week since that’s the part that really wore me out during October. 😵‍💫

…I also wanted to post this yesterday, but suffice to say this past week was a wild ride so it just wasn’t possible.

Same as always: you can read more about my general thoughts/process over on DeviantArt: https://www.deviantart.com/mysticsparklewings/art/1119148508

Or you can read about said thoughts/process over on Tumblr: https://www.tumblr.com/mysticsparklewings/766449024948666368/ohuhuevemberweek1

  • Raavi's childhood was decent, despite been raised in an orphanage that made little to no money on the edges of Waterdeep. He grew up hungry, but relatively happy. He made friends at a young age and was quite popular with the other kids who were fascinated with his horns and stark hair colour. After a few years, Raavi and his friends began to mingle with more people outside of the orphanage now that they were old enough. He would often be picked on for the same things that made him popular as a child, and his friends turned on him, not wanting to receive the same hate for being friends with him. Hurt and confused, Raavi turned to petty criminal activity to prove he was better at life than them, and in the hope he would steal enough to get away from this place.

After a few years of this, now being around 16, he was taken notice by a man around the same age as him, who introduced himself as Maxa. Raavi was hesitant at first but quickly finding himself comfortable around him, and soon fell for him. Maxa was well dressed, seemed like he was well fed, too; and when Raavi would express his distaste for the orphanage, Maxa asked if he would like to come with him, to work with a group of powerful, wealthy people; where Raavi could hone his skills and leave the orphanage.

He and Maxa's relationship growing stronger as they aged, their trust and bond deepening and it wasn't long before they both were deeply in love. They would often sneak out at night, making their way to different rooftops to look at the stars and fantasize about their future. The two of them unaware of the fate that awaited them.

Having grown into a man now, aged 21, Raavi was allowed some more freedoms given he had finished his training; and would often walk around the city. What he would see, now that he was old enough to understand was twisted and almost evil. corruption everywhere. Homeless people begging for food while nobles would scoff at them as they pass by, knowing they would go home to be welcomed with a filling meal.

He would bring this up to his superiors but they would brush him off, scoffing at him just like the nobles to the homeless. "Those people couldn't afford our help if we gave it away for free!" he was told. Ordered to ignore it, but he couldn't. He spoke to Maxa, who was hard to convince, basically raised by the Zhentarim, indoctrinated into their ways, blind to the fact that they weren't helping those who were really in need, until Raavi opened his eyes. Over the next few months the two of them planned an escape. They didn't now much about other Zhentarim facilities but this one had deadly consequences for those who wanted to leave. They finally made their move, timing everything perfectly, however, some of the soldiers they trained with had found their plans and took it upon themselves to kill Raavi and Maxa themselves, trying to show off to the higher ups.

The battle was brutal, Raavi suffered many attacks, as well as being cruelly scared by the leader of these brutes, changing how he speaks, eats and drinks for the rest of his life. During the battle, Maxa was killed, sending Raavi into a rage, using every ounce of anger, pain, guilt and love for his partner to kill the remaining aggressors, not knowing that the leader survived his rage - barely. He carried Maxa's body away, burying it under a cherry tree.

Raavi, unsure of how much time had passed, in physical and emotional agony, he wandered the streets of Waterdeep that night. He eventually stumbled onto the doorstep of his old orphanage. Memories flooding back, his body not being able to take another step having lost so much blood, he fell, hitting the ground.

He had been found and taken in by the Harpers, an enemy faction of the Zhentarim. They held him at arms length but fed him well, and treated his wounds. Unfortunately there was not much they could do for his face, and he began wearing a mask to hide the painful reminder of his lovers death, eventually enchanting it to help others understand his speech.

Once he was healed, and healthy, Raavi offered to repay his debt to the Harpers by joining their forces. He was able to give insight into the Zhentarim, and after a few years of keeping Raavi in their sights at all times, out of fear of him betraying them, he gained their trust. Raavi, now a member of the Harpers was being sent on his first important mission, after doing many smaller ones for them over his time with them. He has been sent to The Spine of the World to safeguard their settlements of Ten-Towns, while concealing his Harper affiliation. Credible threats to Ten-Towns include the Arcane Brotherhood and the Zhentarim. He was told to avoid Targos as it was believed to be controlled by his old organization, and to meet with his contact, a human named Beldora, who poses as a homeless woman gathering information in Bryn Shander.

  • been contemplating opening commissions over here at a discounted price to be like, yo, artist to artist discounts. but i am also unsure since my follower base here is pretty smol and a handful of them are people i talk to relatively frequently anyway xD
So i guess the point is, Is it worth it to post for commissions here, or are we all still really poor and can't afford nice things?

I'm poor and can't afford nice things, so i generally assume other artists end up in the same boat, but i could be completely wrong....

(commission types that i was thinking of would probably be like, sketches you can color, busts, or references or something? not sure.)

  • This year, I completed:
    - 118 illustrations - some I put into groups because they were a set of items or cheebs
    - 6 beast bases
    - 48 comic pages
    - 8 tutorials/tips
    - 4 timelapse videos

All of these can be found on my [sfw Patreon](https://www.patreon.com/parallelrift) with a handful floating over on Twitter and here at InkBlot. Lots of things were accomplished this year, some months had heavier work loads than others and I completed a good, decent amount of personal work this year as well. I will be stepping up my game for 2023, fixing my prices to more professional levels due to the quality of work I offer and my management of time to guarantee most commissions being finished within a week to a month after purchase. I rarely have faltered on this over the years with the exception that sometimes I had other things going on or some commissions had stricter deadlines so they had to be done first above others.

There wasn't a lot of game work this year. Some for Mythika-arpg (on DA) and some done for Eliyo.net. Overall, majority of the YCHs I presented did sell and I was able to save up to my goal amount by the time October 2022 came to light. Didn't do a lot of trades this year, just two, I think, but did 7 Secret Santas, so my December was definitely probably one of the busiest months. Joined a few new Discord servers so I can stay in contact with other artists. Only reached 1 Twitter Follower Raffle Goal this year, which was reaching 500 followers! I also entered a contest, to which I won an Honorable Mention. The most number of Patreon Patrons I had this year was 10 while it stayed at a near consistent 7 at least. My total income from artwork to Patreon this year was just over $3,000...which is still far too low to live off of, especially with the high economy right now.

Some of the downside things that have happened to me this year, just to get out of the way first, is that my FB account was hacked, no one was willing to legit help me, so lost the account and my Insta as that was attached to it. The initial hacking happened in early Oct. All they did was request a password reset and somehow got it without even having access to my email. Even when I said I had not requested such a thing, nothing was done. Even when I presented proof, nothing was done. I cannot afford an advocate so was basically forced to let the accounts go. It sucks because I have no clue what they did and all the things I had on those accounts are just gone forever now. We also had some car repair bills this year as the breaks went out and one of the tires wouldn't stop leaking air because they fixed the rims wrong when they went to rotate the tires >.> And of course, the entire theft and drama with socials and Ai right now is definitely not a good thing either.

Overall, I was also able to attend an anime con this year, one of the Trash Taste tour events, saw an orchestra, attended my first Pride celebration, and was able to attend the Renaissance Festival 3x this year. No animals had major vet bills this year. Mochi did get fixed and Kiwi had 2 ear infections, but for the infections, we were ready this time and had the medicine with us so we took care of it at home and she's all good. Elyza (cat) is at least 10+ years old, Mochi (cat) is 2, Kiwi (dog) is 5 and Onyx (dog) is 4 years of age. We've had to adjust everyone's food this year a couple times, especially with the cost of dog food having doubled...groceries for people right now has also nearly doubled in cost and I haven't seen this since I was like 10...didn't think I'd be living through it twice in my lifetime. We are saving what we can and plan for meals we can easily make and freeze while still remaining as healthy as we can be. December this year has also provided us with a white christmas for once with a good amount of snow that was about 1/4 of the way up my calf. Downside, the temperatures dropped to near extremes and froze the roads into a ice skating rink...so that was fun >.< As of this post, the snow is slowly starting to melt already, but the cold winds linger. Oh, and I also finally used some of that saved up money to update my office so it's more ergonomic...really badly needed it as the previous set up was uncomfortable and a bit problematic.

Thank you everyone and hope this 2023 is a bright year with Wins for creatives.
Stay safe, stay healthy, and wish all the best fortunes.

  • > [**Image:** A short comic in stylized, quadriptych-like geometry. The first panel shows the Lastborn gesticulating as he looks down into his own silhouette, which encloses Trahearne. He says ‘You were one of the first to leave… And you disappeared. You threw away the very thing that I could never have. I guess I resented you for that…’
    >
    > The Lastborn turns away in the next panel, sheepishly folding his hands. Trahearne dips his head, deep in thought. The Lastborn continues. ‘I felt so betrayed that you left… And when you came back, I felt betrayed that it was so easy for you to come home… It meant I was alone in my alone-ness again.’
    >
    > The next two panels invert the silhouettes of Trahearne and the Lastborn, with Trahearne rendered in white against a black background. He holds the sword Caladbolg / Caladcholg over his shoulders, but it seems to crumble under its own weight, and he does, too. He peeks out from the crook of his arm, and says ‘I never understood why you acted out. I envied you, actually. I thought you had been given the only true freedom.’
    >
    > The Lastborn is minimized into a tiny sprite of himself. He sits at Trahearne’s feet and asks ‘Freedom?’
    >
    > Trahearne continues. ‘Freedom from the Dream, the Hunt, the Tree, our people.’
    >
    > In the last panel, more pieces of the blade fall away as Trahearne’s grip on it falters. He looks at the Lastborn properly, now, and says ‘Even when the weight of my burden became too great to carry alone, I couldn’t afford to fail. It was never an option. So I ran, and I hid myself in my studies. But I was never truly free.’]

First of the first and last of the last have grief that rhymes, but instead of bringing them together, it just gives them 3947287 layers of beef that they’re too stoic to act out about. (And _then_ it brings them together. Later. Much later.)

  • Before I was born in the 1980s there were famous TV Cars from the 1960's Batmobile to the Green Hornet's Black Beauty to The Munster's Koach to the Dukes of Hazzard's General Lee but during 1975 ABC would release Starsky and Hutch a tv show about 2 cops that go around the mean streets of San Francisco in their 1974 Ford Grand Torino which would carry out the famous design that people see and recognize from classic tv cop show from the 1970's.

Starsky and Hutch Belongs to Columbia Pictures. #Vehicle #Ford #Starsky_and_Hutch

  • Character concept portrait created in [HeroMachine 3](http://www.heromachine.com/heromachine-3-lab/) for KaiserElectric's superhero IOT. The supers are actually NPCs and the players participate as regular nations.

    **Real name:** Michael Ford

    **Sex:** Male

    **Nationality:** American

    **Location:** North America

**Abilities:** Super strength, super speed, flight, durability, energy manipulation.

An "egotistical Hollywood heavyweight". Based on the name I envisaged him as an amalgam of Clint Eastwood's film roles (*Dirty Harry* and *The Man with No Name* especially), but 'Lec told me he was aiming for a cross between Guy Gardner and 80's action heroes. Truth be told, v2 turned out better. Duke Nukem vibes are unintentional but not unnoticed.

  • This snake family just acquired a home that they were desperately looking for as the rent for their old home was so astronomically high, that they couldn't afford to stay there and also pay for necessities such as food, water, cleaning supplies, etc. Ladies and gents; you're looking at a Serperior mother with her Servine son as they are now proud homeowners of this lovely 2-bedroom, 1-bath house, located in a nice, quiet neighborhood, where most businesses are local and they're only about 20 minutes away from the nearest major town, so if they need something from a major big brand store, it won't take an eternity to complete a round trip. Let's have a round of applause and congratulations to this wonderful, happy family!

This drawing is also going to serve as an update as to where I've been as it's been ~3 months since I drew anything new and a lot has happened during that time. Back in July of this year, the property we were living at for the past 10 years was bought out by another realtor company and we feared that our rent was going to increase as it has already done so at the beginning of this year by ~$250. After the acquisition, we received a letter from the new realtor company that our rent wasn't going up (right away. More on this in a little bit.) which was a huge relief. However, around mid-August, we received another letter from them informing us that the rent would be going up once more, starting in October 2023, by another ~$300! That's 2 rent increases for this year, which is really, really bad! For those wondering if companies can do that since in several states, there's a law that exists that makes it so there's a cap on how much rent can be raised per year. Sadly, Maine is not one of those states that has this law so, realtors can raise the rent as much as they want, whenever they want, so long as they inform their tenants at least 30 days in advance in writing. As a result of this new rent increase, we would not be able to afford the new rent amount as Mom and I live on monthly paychecks, which are used to pay for expenses such as bills, food, necessities, clothes, cleaning supplies, unexpected expenses, etc. So, we had to spend the last 2 months packing up our home while also searching for a new one that's not only within our price range of what we can afford for a monthly rent payment but also had to include heat as heating is very expensive here in Maine and it is required in order to survive Maine's harsh, hard winters. It also had to have enough storage to store as many of our belongings as possible, and it also had to have washer and dryer hookups. Towards the end of September, we were able to find a place that met most requirements for a much cheaper price. However, the place is a lot smaller than our old home and when we moved in, we had to get rid of/donate a lot of things as we don't have the room for them, which sucked as we had a lot of nice things that we had to give away. Despite that, Mom and I are thankful that we not only managed to find a place before October that included heat, plus most other amenities, including electricity which is a huge bonus as not a lot of places include electricity in the rent. We're also thankful that we have a roof over our heads so we're not out on the streets, which I was fearing was going to happen as there weren't too many places for rent that were within our price range and included what we needed. We managed to unpack most of the house, but there's still quite a bit of unpacking left to do, especially in Mom's room as her room is much smaller than mine. (I had to take the bigger bedroom due to my bed and furniture being so large.) Overall, the past 3 months have been the most stressful and scariest of my life as I was filled with fear, anxiety on top of what anxiety I had already, and uncertainty due to these events. We are slowly settling into our new home and thankfully, we're living in a nice, quiet neighborhood that isn't in the boonies and we're only an hour away from a major town, which is nice. I should be able to get back into drawing like I normally do, but who knows what life will throw at us next? Only one way to find out.
This snake family just acquired a home that they were desperately looking for as the rent for their old home was so astronomically high, that they couldn't afford to stay there and also pay for necessities such as food, water, cleaning supplies, etc.
