  • Painted from a reference of course, in my continued efforts to improve my use of light and color. I love this pretty little eggplant.

  • Here's the latest of my series of paintings or drawings featuring dragons interacting with aircraft. It's a theme that charms me! In this case our orange friend is startled by a Cessna 152 or similar, but luckily there was no collision. Perhaps a well-fertilized field far below and no more.

  • I've never used liquid watercolor before (only tube and dry), but got three bottles of it the most recent edition of Sketchbox. I really love trying supplies and media I've never tried before. In this case I had magenta, purple, and leaf green, plus a green pencil and a brown one, so I decided to try and paint something with just those items. Other than a touch of white gel pen at the end, I managed it. Stargazer Lilies are among my favorite flower, the smell is so sweet, so I decided to try and paint them. I loved the intensity and smoothness of the paints but obviously need to learn subtlety, ha ha. It was fun though!

  • A piece of profile art for LioDen. My king has wings, so why not one of his cubs?

  • Not my usual subject but I'm reasonably happy with the result. Started with watercolor, developed with colored pencil, tweaked and finished with a bit of paint pen. It's a card I made for my folks.

  • I've actually managed to do one drawing each day for this challenge and that's much more than I expected. Most of them are traditional media so I will probably not bother to photograph, contrast correct, and crop each one. More important that I did them, really. I will however upload any that are digital as they look much better on the InkBlot platform! Today I was trying for cleaner lines than usual. Not entirely successful but I'm better than I used to be.

Ugh. Apologies for the stray pixels!

  • Watercolor pencil and colored pencil, from my own photo. This is my calico named Nishiko, she posed perfectly one time with pen and paper ready to write down all my tasks. It's often said that cats don't have owners, they have staff, and I love her dearly but that's true!

  • I don't often draw mermaids (can you tell?) but I had fun with this one.

  • I did a challenge this October where I not only followed a prompt list, but used only the items in the Art Snacks October ink box, which did not include a pencil or eraser, but did a really good sketch pad, include a variety of fineliners, a brush pen, a flexliner, some liquid ink, and an actual brush. One of the colors was a lovely vibrant red. It was a fun challenge and I like the people at Art Snacks. I also decided I wasn't going to upload anything unless I felt like it or thought it was worth sharing. I particularly love this undead samurai. It wasn't a prompt, but an extra I did one day.

It really was a fun challenge and made me want to continue not sharing most of my art. The need to photograph and color correct everything is sometimes a disincentive for me to do art, and often made me share crap that shouldn't have seen the light of day. So, here's to more art, whether I share or not!

  • A drifter crosses a rocky landscape to return to his faithful mount - a starfighter. Time to swap the hat for a helmet.

    Painted in Krita.

  • This is not a short furred cat - like a Birman he's puffy. I made him while trying out my liquid graphite penccil, loosely from reference.

  • Day 2 of the challenge so of course I did it on day 3. I was getting frustrated with digital media so went back to traditional materials. It's such a trade off! Digital is much easier to transfer to websites and make it look good, but tradtitional is easier for me in general. So I try to do both. These swords will all be designed with practicality in mind, rather than just looking cool - I think that will be an added bit of fun for me.

Materials: mixed media paper, Spectrum Noir flexible liner and fineliner, mechanical pencil.
