The decade following Operation Express 1 & 2, South Arcea had found itself trying to organize the various warlords and rump states of the Hoffnung east into some sort of resistance against the now Arcean backed Restoration Army and Hoffnung Nationale Gewerkschaft. However, the divisions remained deep between the various feuding old strong men. In 1833 this struggle came to a head when the territory occupied by the former Hoffnung 9th Army fell into a Civil War after its commanding officer died. Younger officers who hoped to join with the RA found themselves in conflict with high command and paramilitary anti-Aequalist forces. The RA accepted the young officers calls for support, and Arcea in turn supported their allies intervention.
Krenzinger, South Arcea's preferred eastern warlord, came to reinforce the old high command and their dispirate paramilitary forces.
