The Sublime Republic of Venediciya was hoplitejoe's country in *Iron and Blood 2* and its reboot, *At the Crossroads*. In 1499, Piri Reis headed an expedition to the New World; colonial settlements followed, but initial efforts were largely unsuccessful and concerted development only began in the 1600s with the expansion of coffee and sugar plantations supported by chattel slavery. By 1720, Venediciya had amassed a large degree of economic and political autonomy, hosting a local parliament, its own law courts, and a university, establishing independent trade relations with other countries. By the game's start in 1815, the Ottoman Empire had collapsed and Venediciya was a *de jure* independent nation, encompassing Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, and Suriname; the original game also saw a Peruvian exclave, but in *Crossroads* this was ceded to the NPC Tawantinsuyu.
