Thylacoleo carnifex was a large terrestrial predator in the Pleistocene. It was a marsupial, in the same order as koalas, wombats, and kangaroos, and operated with the same dental formula. It had very small canines, and so to compensate had massive premolars and incisors, as well as the strongest bite force of any predator. Thylacoleo is often called the marsupial lion due to its similarities in niche and morphology to the lion, whose skull I also included in this painting. &nbs..
