Sooo time to bitch about my HDD again .
My storage is dying... To no one's surprise already lost 1tb of the same HDD in 2021 and i still have to do data recovery on that one .
Anyhow the second one i still had in use is now dying as well and this time corrupting data instead of just slowing down to a crawl ...how fun .
And holy fucking cow the prices on HDDs at the moment ...like when did it get more expensive to get a HDD than an SSD. The same exact model of HDD that i currently have costs double of what i have payed when I got them . DOUBLE! Sure i could get a 2TB for a just a bit more (and still less than two 1TB) But i prefer having more drives with less storage so i can work around loosing one .
And yes i could get an other SATA SSD but ehh idk i don't like doing data recovery on those if they die and i don't need fast access since i just use them for storage and not live application. In theory i still have an open PCIe slot too but again i don't really want to use it for thermal reasons. My board is already packed and having an M.2 PCIe smuched between the GPU and CPU with no room for a heat sink isn't really a good deal in terms of temperature. Don't wanna cook the SSD while putting the rig in full stress.
Ehhh anyway till I get a replacement for the dying drive i probably gonna throw my data on an external storage and gdrive (at least the important files) .
Also i am not going to get the same model of HDD again. Both dying within not even 5 years is not a good deal especially when I think about how my dad is still actively using hdds i bought over a decade ago without any issue whatsoever.
