_Syn stopped dead in his tracks. He stared at the cliff that opened up in front of them and led abruptly into the depths. He didn't yet recognize the beach below, only heard the roaring and thundering of the waves as they hit the cliffs and, with the patience of time, carried away the stone, pebble by pebble. He smelled the salty air, but above all he saw the endless expanse of sky and sea before him. Both came closer together, merging into a line of the same color on the horizon, while the stars above cast small blobs of light on the waves below. So heaven and earth were bound together forever. No matter how far Synnover looked, that was all he saw.
