After surviving a vampire attack, Arkaeus and Ari find themselves turned, and are banished from their village. Stalwart soldier Foren should be promoted when he next meets with the council, but is instead exiled with the two outcasts to "make sure they stay out of trouble."

Together they must get along, let alone not kill
each other, and survive the outside world. But the more they learn about the world, the more they learn about the village they came from, and they soon discover there may be more to each other's banishment than they have been told.
