Plague doctors, and their costumes/uniforms, were very much a real thing- but the dramatic black robes and crisp white masks are very much a swanky cosplay rather than reality. Historic plague doctor masks were more likely to be boring browns with "beaks" that looked a bit more like the muppet Gonzo than the smooth raven masks we see now. I wonder if there'll be fancy cosplay of hazmat suits in a few hundred years? **Like what you see?
