Taking a break from Art to study... Art?

For the last few years I've really felt like I've hit a roadblock when it comes to improving art. With my renewed interest in working on my worldbuilding again I've hit a massive road block; 90% of my Alien races are humanoid or have humanoid features (like hands) and since I do not draw people often this has made me wary to get started.

Typically I put off drawing humans since most people around me (including art teachers) would complain that I was wasting my time/talent drawing animals and I should focus on humans. This did the opposite and made me heal dig into drawing animals even more in-depth, to the point of studying anything but humans (and apes). So! Since I have neglected one of the most populous and commonly depicted animals to draw, humans, it's only fair I start with the thing that I hate the most, Hands.

I wont be just drawing hands/humans. I dont know where I'm going with this, but I'm going back into study mode. Perspective, composition etc are all on my list. All I know is that I'm going to be focusing on studying rather than finished pictures.
