Her father had decided to take her on a mission to check up on the Team Rocket mission. Being absent-minded and focused on his work, she slipped away after spotting a Growlithe. They quickly became friends as the Pokémon was close to newly hatched.

After Giovanni had figured out she was missing, they all went to look for her. When they found her, she was taking a nap with her new friend. She wouldn’t leave without her, so Gio decided to help her catch her first Pokémon.
