I'm often asked where my considerable mental powers come from, and the answer is rather mundane. My basic abilities are just something I was born with, supplemented by recycled magical energies. Basically, I steal them. It's a perfect system, brainwashing a high-level mage or magical creature to allow me to drain their magic, feeding on it to pump right back into their minds to make them even more docile and compliant, allowing me to drain them even further. Let them recover for a few days, then rinse and repeat. Unicorns are often surprised how easily their minds are invaded, but it's obvious that it's easier to brainwash a unicorn when using their own magic. It explains my focus on them, I'm a specialist. It's the circle of life. Besides, everyone should recycle. Imagine the world if all that unicorn magic was just leaking into the environment. What a mess. Much neater if I keep them pacified and drained and put all that wasteful mana to much better use. Plus, it's delicious! Just like any mindful hunter, I don't let any part of my prey go to waste. Even when drained, brainwashed and helpless, I make sure their bodies are put to good, and hard use.
