## **(What happened before Page 1 of KO)**
Kian was once a god, more specifically the god of shape-shifting. He was the reason that mortals could change shape into the inner beast they were born with. It was a common ability among the people back then - A gift from Kian, who enjoyed the company of mortals along with his partner Altair.
Kian and Altair were among the mortals quite often, helping the people in the areas they visited. Teaching the people better ways to grow food, build homes, and obtain a better education (They'd bring books galore when they could). They were removing the need for war, greed, and hatred. The two eventually built their own Kingdom together down in the mortal world and adopted a daughter.
They were making slow, but positive changes to the world as time went on. At first, the other gods didn't bat an eye, Kian and Altair were a pair to be feared by the others and so they dared not to stop them… At least not on their own.
Yet as the world changed, chaos and corruption faded away. Two Greater Gods saw it as an imbalance that needed correcting, it took away their purpose, and many others agreed.
Thus came the end to the Kingdom and peace that Kian and Altair created, as the gods banded together and called for war against the two.
The battle lasted for days. Kian and Altair wouldn't give up their Kingdom and people so easily, doing all they could to protect it. It was thousands against two, but in the end it became hundreds against one. Altair was finally struck down, given a wound he wouldn't recover from.
Kian lost focus upon seeing his partner fall, Altair's body fading into particles of glowing blue. The distraction gave an opening for the enemy, sending a spear surging towards Kian. It connected and Kian was sent flying across the sky, eventually crashing into the ground near a forests edge - though the attack wasn't fatal like the other gods hoped it would be, Kian wouldn't be getting back on his feet for some time. That was all the other gods needed to wipe Kian and Altair's Kingdom from the map. One bright blinding light and everything was gone. Altair was gone. Their daughter and the people they watched over were certainly gone.
Kian laid there in the loose dirt and grass that had been ripped up due to his crash landing; breathing heavily, tears streaming down his face, and losing consciousness. The gods would eventually find him if he stayed out in the open, but he couldn't find the willpower to move. All he could do was think of Altair, their daughter, all that he'd lost within minutes.
His wounds weren't healing up as quickly as they should, even if they were dealt by another god. Kian tried to muster the strength to switch back to his true beast - but couldn't. Realization dawning on him as his vision faded to black. He was no longer a god - the spear leached away nearly all of his power.
Kian felt gentle hands on him as he drifted into a deep sleep. He couldn't bring himself to care if they were the hands of a god that came to end his life and didn't struggle when the last thing he felt was his body being dragged across the grass.

Kian's gift slowly faded from the people around the world. No one could take shape of their inner beasts anymore and people panicked. Chaos and corruption were slowly creeping their way back into the world. Over the years, less people were born with features of their inner beasts, it became an extremely rare occurrence now.
Kian's body was never found by the gods, but they could still feel his presence around the world, yet couldn't pin-point where he was hidden.
Deep within a forest though, Kian remained in a deep sleep for nearly a hundred years - It was his body's attempt to heal his wounds and regain even just a sliver more of his power. By the time he awoke, he was once again alone, never knowing who dragged him into the forest. Kian stayed there though; and for the longest time he didn't dare get close to the forests edge.
A thousand more years had passed and Kian grew bitter. There was a building hatred for the gods and even for the mortals he once enjoyed being around. Though if it wasn't for Altair introducing him to the joys of the mortal world, he may have never even bothered with them in the first place.
Kian found himself blaming the mortals at times for even existing. If they didn't exist, Altair wouldn't have grown fond of them, then none of this would have happened. In the end as his thoughts slowed and anger died down, he'd have to remind himself the mortals weren't truly at fault. It was on him and Altair for allowing themselves to be around them… but even that felt wrong to think of it like that.
Kian stood up with a huff, frustration and anger quickly clouding his mind again. All thoughts lead back to the gods that betrayed them. This was all he needed to remain in the forest, to regain his strength and power. Even if it took eons to regain, he'd wait, and then he'd finish off the rest of the gods.
A droplet of rain lightly plopped down onto the Fallen God's shoulder. Kian raised a hand to wipe it off before looking up into the trees, with what little he could see past the thick brush of leaves, the sky had grown dark and cloudy and the rain was starting to grow heavier as more droplets made it through the tree leaves and fell down onto him. What lovely weather to accompany his brooding.
Kian sighed, he was currently in his human form which he felt the most comfortable in apart from his true beast - but he couldn't take on that form anymore. However his clothing would eventually be drenched if he stayed in what he was, so he opted to change into a bird in order to quickly make it back to his home. He was without a major portion of his power, but there was still enough to shift and defend himself, especially after resting for so many years.
Rain drops rolled right off as he darted through the trees, making his way towards a cave in the distance. It was his shelter all these years, yet he didn't care for tidying up the outside - He told himself it'd just make it easier for others to find him.
The inside however was a different story. A large puff of smoke suddenly appeared as he flew into the entrance, a sign that he once again changed forms. Strolling out of the smoke that quickly faded away, Kian was back to human form.
The inside of the cave was full of plants, vines, crystals, stone paths that lead to different rooms and an inground spring with water flowing down into it from the cave wall and trickling down the vines growing along the cracks of said wall. He kept the areas tidy and clean, or at least what would be considered clean for the inside of a cave. Over the years Kian built his own furniture from the trees and managed to find and create decent bedding to sleep comfortably on. It wasn't perfect living, but it was enough for him.
Kian's only plan for the rest of the day was to sleep, just like every other day. He already explored the entirety of the forest, as massive as it was, he had over a thousand years to comb through it. Even though he never showed himself again to the world and the gods above, he'd still come across beings and beasts that continued to search for him after all this time. So now, his days are spent finding food and going back to sleep to hide away from any possible threats lurking around for him.
Sometimes though, Kian finds himself closer to the forests edge each time he's out, like he's being drawn to it. Hes noticed a village slowly growing over the years, not too far out in the open grassy hills. Every time he looks upon it he gains this overwhelming urge to leave the forest and explore it. He'll find himself looking over to his side, expecting to see Altair standing there with a mischievous look in his eyes and Kian could practically hear his partners voice trying to smoothly convince Kian to have a look around the village shops with him.
Kian was stubborn though, he'd gotten used to Altair having some sort of ulterior motive most of the time. It was never bad (though at times annoying); but he'd still fix Altair with a narrowed questioning gaze and Altair would shrug, throw his hands behind his head and pretend as if it didn't matter then and settle with a _**'Don't have to, jus' figured it'd be something fun to do.'**_
Kian felt a deep pang of hurt in his heart each time he reflected on memories of Altair and would turn away, making his way deeper into the forest again. Never giving in to the urge to explore the village just beyond the forests edge.
As the rain pounded down through the trees and streamed down onto the cave, Kian made his way over to the bed and settled down for the day. Focusing in on the rain outside the cave entrance, he watched and listened to it till finally falling asleep.
The next day would change his life forever.
## **//**
Kian took the form of a horse to roam around the forest, once again getting too close to the edge. To his horror he heard footsteps and light panting - But it sounded small. Completely unlike the beings that pass through searching for him. The desire to investigate was strong and Kian strayed from his usual path and routine.
Dread washed over Kian when a mortal child peaked up over the top of the hill, struggling her way up and finally entering the forest. What shocked Kian the most though was that this kid carried features of her inner beast. Something he thought he'd never see again, remnants of his gift to the people of this world. She had the ears of a canine and well, three tails of a canine. That was unusual to Kian as well.
His heart swelled with pain again, all this did was remind him of the past, of a better life. It was enough to break Kian out of his frozen state. He needed to chase the child off - This forest was too dangerous and he truly couldn't bear to deal with mortals again. Not after what it caused.
