I used to be in a roleplaying group called Silver and Bone on DeviantArt. I have a lot of very fond memories from those days, so I have a soft spot for this piece in particular. We had this idea to make a Major Arcana tarot card deck featuring characters from the group, but it never quite came to fruition. This was my contribution to the deck, featuring Jonas Stidolph (character belongs to QuebecoisWolf on Twitter) as The Fool. The border art was contributed by CrowFangs on Twitter.
The Fool card symbolized youth, innocence, recklessness, and apathy, amongst other things. The character depicted walks forth boldy despite their gaze being cast up at the sky instead of at the ground beneath their feet to see the danger they are treading into. A dog is sometimes shown on the card; is it trying to disuade its master from a dangerous path, or gleefully coming along?
Here, Jonas takes the role of The Fool, happily leading himself down a reckless path with a gilded chain. His aunt, who was an important NPC in the game, takes the role of the dog; is she trying to stop him, or only pulling him forward?
