Today is the centennial of Inostrancevia!!

To celebrate, here's some paleoart of a family unit of the largest Gorgons. A mother rests with her newly-hatched pup, while its father stares at the last evening of his life, as the gangrene will claim his life after the setting of his last Sun. The wound was likely inflicted in a territorial fight with another Inostrancevia.

For my non-paleontology followers, I should explain that a gorgonopsid is an offshoot of the "proto-mammals" that ruled the Earth before dinosaurs had evolved. Inostrancevia is among the largest of the gorgonopsids and it ruled Siberia as the top predator during Permian ages. They were predators that evolved the sabertoothed condition long before the sabercats appeared.
