A redo of my 2022 picture of the same name. World Lion Day is today so I figured I'd now, since it would 2 years to the day between each piece. ( Hit next to see the old and new side by side)
I think the thing that's changed the most between these is mindset; it's done when it's done. This time it just so happened to be close to World Lion Day so it lined up nicely.
I love the concept in the 2020 but honestly I was just pushing out something for WLD in 8hrs. As much as I liked the colours when I did the 2020 version I wasn't really thinking about tone/storytelling; it was something to be done for social media and that's all it was. Posting for the sake of posting -anything- so I didn't get lost in the algorithm. It was a very demanding and toxic mindset to be in and it only killed my art and joy of creating.
The 2022 one is a both a shift in tone as well as thinking; I tried to focus a heck of a lot more on storytelling and the general sombre vibe that I felt should of been there in the first place. It's taken month of on/off looking back and working on bits but I finally feel like I did the concept I was going for justice.
Nowadays I've given up mostly with the algorithm. I know I'm not going to be popular, and my art will get lost in the crowds of amazing artists out there. So why not just work on stuff that I can be proud of, and hopefully sparks a little something in someone else.
