  • _All things connect at their roots. The fabric that weaves the carpet we walk is made of roots, mycellium, and old life._

"Nimhue's Root Connection" is my personal website, a hub for all the things I love to do and share. This design is the logo (minus text) that I use to convey my site's message, that everything is connected, and so to are the things I love- all in one place. I made this logo using watercolors and gold acrylic on watercolor paper.

  • _"The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older.. Shorter of breath and one day closer to death!" - PINK FLOYD, 'TIME'_

For my 22nd birthday, I wanted nothing more than to paint. After spending the whole day grappling with the inevitability of time's passing, I needed to escape into the mystical world of art. I stayed up into the late hours of the night, working away at this watercolor piece. It wasn't supposed to be represenative of anything, but I made the dragon hold an hourglass of golden sand in his tail as a nod to the theme of the night.

  • _His starry gaze met unto mine, thrusting me into the darkness. Day became night and out went the light in the Autumn forest's starkness._

One day my partner and I went traversing through the 300+ acre wood that surrounded our old home. After many miles, we stopped to breathe, and in an instant my eyes met with the deep obsidian ones belonging to a barred owl. That gaze lasted an eternity, and I could have been sucked in like a moth to the flame if he hadn't eventually flown away. It was a magickal experience.

  • _"The sun is a very magic fellow, he shines down on me each day-ay-ay-ay..." - DONOVAN_

I designed this serene sun face as a tattoo design to have done on my leg as a coverup piece for a regrettable stick-n-poke I attempted in my early teens. I did this on mixed media paper with Prismacolor colored pencils. It was enjoyable working in the highly saturated colors and I plan to do this more in works to come!

  • _The Wyld Fiddle Fae stands as guardian of the fiddleheads- protecting them from hungry foragers!_

I started this artwork in the Spring of 2023, just as the first ostrich ferns began unfurling their tendrils to the sun. An avid forager and naturalist, fiddleheads are one of the first delights of early Spring here in New England, and I can't get my mind off of them until I've tasted their dark green deliciousness sauteed in a little bit of butter. It is important however to remember that fiddleheads are part of the wetland ecosystems, and we can't decimate their population just because they're tasty! Good forager's etiquette is important when harvesting from the wild (otherwise you might have to face their guardian, the Wyld Fiddle Fae!) I wrote anarticle on Forager's Etiquette on my Substack, which can be viewed for free here: (https://nimhuesrootconnection.substack.com/)

I sold this piece to a lovely local Mainer shortly after it went live on my Etsy shop! If you are seeking a unique piece of art such as this one, please consider checking out my shop, Olde Earth here: (https://www.etsy.com/shop/OldeEarth)

  • _"I don't know how the other clans go about their lives with three suns hanging over their heads all the time. They're giant balls of fire. What if one falls?" - DEETHRA, DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE_

I drew this pen and ink art of Deet from The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance for a 2021 #Inktober challenge prompt. The prompt word CRYSTAL inspired me to draw my favorite character alongside a big crystal.

And yes, I'm just as mad as you are that they cancelled the show!

  • _The clever fox takes different forms to outwit and trap its prey, from blazing fur to blackened wings and even a handsome fae_

"An Sionnach" means "The Fox" in Irish. This drawing tells the tale of a shapeshifting fox who often takes the form of a fae man, or perhaps it is the other way around.. either way, keep watch for the mysterious fox for he is a trickster and thief.

  • _"Red wings fly over barrens blue, trees stand tall that glimmer white, colors of Autumn are a lovely sight."_

After several long weeks of working at it, my newest piece, "Red in Blue Barrens," is complete.
This acrylic panel painting was done as a tribute to the place known as Maine, with emphasis on the Cardinal and Birch, two native favorites of the painting's recipient.
This piece was very fun to do, and was an opportunity to experiment with new techniques. Hidden within the painting are some special little details, such as the rune 'Berkana,' a Chaga clump, and lichens.

  • _The digeridoo's echoing voice booms with reverberation, each hum to the leap of the kangaroo._

This pen and ink drawing was a quick one I did for Day 9 of Inktober 2023. The prompt word was 'BOUNCE,' and I immediately imagined an aborignal design decorated kangaroo hopping through the outback.

  • _Rise to the moon and embrace the light after an eternity of darkness shrouded by death's night_

In 2023 I participated in the #Inktober challenge, drawing a pen and ink artwork based on a prompt each day. Day 13 the prompt word was "RISE", so I was inspired to illustrate a skeleton rising from the Earth, almost completely uncovered, standing in contemplation of the world above.

  • _Wild woman in the garden space, gleams light from the holy place_

"Her Light" was a pencil piece I drew in 2023 as a tribute to the goddess within, the divine feminine. I wanted to capture that blazing power in her wild hair and bare breasts, and in the illuminated halo behind her. From below a garden of lupines and herbs spring forth from the warmth of her glow, her energy nurturing them to blossom.
