  • An attempt to build on my pregnancy anxiety mermaid's from 2019. I'll have to work bigger if I wanna pull it off but first time playing with hard pastels. So not a total loss.

Summer 2019 my now ex SO's family and mine kept passively aggressively pushing for me to pop out babies. I didn't realize till looked at the sketches a year later that the desire to break down a female body into a functioning machine to pump out children (everything but the mouth, throat and wombs is mechanical) was probably a subconscious outlet of that. Art is kinda cool like that.

  • Been taking local art classes to brush up on some old muscles and force myself to get out of the house. Takes me in directions I would have never gone myself. In this case color.

  • For 3 years a good buddy of mine in the media arts has compared my springtime nouveau-ish shapes to O'Keeffe's flower paintings in the worst way possible. Cuz you know, she just looooved critics summing up the whole of her as the lady who paints the lady bits flowers. Between that and critics talking/writing on her work in comparison to her companion (Alfred Stieglitz) I can only imagine the frustration Georgia O'Keeffe went through.

He's not pissing me off intentionally and honestly not the only dude who's hinted the same thing. Past discussions and actual art history hint that anything I say won't change that. So now I'm channeling my annoyance by angry drawing grotesquely sexed up or fleshy flowers. Leaning new textures and techniques as I go! My buddy didn't like them, in the best way possible. So mission accomplished!

  • Sometimes I just like to throw down shapes, render them out and see where it goes. Its relaxing and get to practice at contrast and composition while I'm at it. Turns out rendering out intestines is calming AF.

  • Been experimenting with UV mediums. (Actually decent blacklight pics to come out soon). Window Markers the stablest of mediums. On second use they like to dump ink at random. Lead to some panicked finger painting. Still I rolled with it and actually really happy with the direction it took. Almost like I used real paint. #makerart #marker #traditional #blackpaper #blackpaperart #chicken #rooster #color #blacklight #blacklightart #uvart #gelpen
