I love Chatran! :iconyayzplz: The Adventures of Chatran (aka The Adventures of Milo and Otis) is one of my favorite movies ever! I watch to it since I remember, and I still own the VHS with the original version of the movie (but in Portuguese though). :3 The story is so sad, but happy at the same time. :(:) But one thing always made me very sad and sometimes revolted about this movie... It contains many strong danger scenes. Who watched to the movie knows what I'm talking about. Chatran is exposed to many real dangers in the movie. Such like fall from the second floor and hit the ground when he was about four weeks old and barely knew how to walk, fight with bears, fight with snakes, fall from a waterfall, being tossed from a very high cliff and fall in the sea, and many others. :( The problem here is that the producers didn't used any kind of special effect on the production of the movie, and all of the dangerous parts were real. :( Since I remember, I ask to myself, "Is this real? Is Chatran really falling from that cliff? Does someone caught him when he falled from that edge?". As I grew, these questions seemed to became true at each time I watched to the movie. Until I watched to it again this week. Then I decided to make a research about it to check if my suspects was right. I didn't wanted to belive at first before the research, but they was. :(
_"Animal cruelty allegations
When the film was first released, several Australian animal rights organizations raised allegations of animal cruelty during filming and called for a boycott. **The Sunday Mail (Brisbane) reported at the time that Animal Liberation Queensland founder Jacqui Kent alleged the killing of more than 20 kittens during production** and added that she was disturbed by reports from Europe which alleged **other animals had been injured, as in one case, where a producer allegedly had broken a cat's paw to make it appear unsteady on its feet.** Kent said her organization had a number of complaints from people who had seen the film and were concerned that it could not have been made without cruelty. The Tasmanian and Victorian branches of the RSPCA also alleged abuses.
The film was reported to have the approval of the American Humane Society, despite not having their officers present during filming.
The American Humane Association attempted to investigate cruelty rumors through "contacts in Europe who normally have information on movies throughout the world." While noting that the contacts had also heard the allegations, they were unable to verify it as being true. The organization also reported, "we have tried through humane people in Japan, and through another Japanese producers to determine if these rumors are true but everything has led to a dead end."_ by Wikipedia

I always knew that something wasn't right with that movie, even it being great and beautiful. T_T You see... How many Chatrans existed after all? ú_ù Think of all those killed kittens saddens me. -_- I hate people who maul animals. >= |
Thinkning of that, I've got the inpiration of make this tribute for Chatran. The most courageous cat in the world. <= ) Now he plays happily in Heaven, where he don't have worries and don't have to suffer anymore. <= )
P.S: I tried a cartoony style for this one. I'm happy with the final result. :) You know... This is my first attempt at drawing a cat. And it's also my first atempt at drawing a cartoony cat. :) I hope I made it right. <= )
