• Oh god... What even happened here? We went from an art site to a facebook clone?

    All my artwork is out of order, my page doesn't even feel like an art site gallery, the front page is just another scrolling timeline where everything is massive and built with only mobile users in mind... I have to scroll endlessly to see any new artwork, hidden among people's status posts...

    No way to browse just artwork outside of tags. No way to see a tile of recently uploaded artwork. At least as far as I can tell. Clicking on trending tags brings me to yet another timeline scroll, which isn't even centered on desktop. It's aligned to the left with a lot of dead space on the right that is just... empty.

    Yeah no. This website is not for me. This isn't an art site. ("Photos" instead of "Gallery"???) It's yet another generic social media clone. Sorry, but that's not what I'm interested in. I don't know why there's such a push for every new site having a mobile-centric UI, even on desktop, designed to keep you scrolling forever on your phone. It is *so clunky* to use on desktop. It's so easy to miss new art uploads, because you can't view thumbnails on a grid. Discoverability becomes tied to how often people share your pieces around.

    I'm just tired, man. Maybe I'm just getting old and exhausted from trying out so many new "art sites". The way artwork is displayed and discovered is one of the most important things to me. I want to be able to open the front page, and see a grid of new artwork, where I can select multiple tabs to open and browse at my leisure. I want my profile to have my art be the focus. I don't need everything to try to function like bluesky or twitter, and if this is the direction inkblot is going to go, then well... I don't think I'll be giving it another chance.

    So if anyone who happened to follow me here (I can see my follower count got wiped anyway) wants to see what sort of art I'm doing now, please check out any of my other social links here:

    I hope for those of you who do intend on staying that this site serves your needs better than mine. But for me, I'm out.

    - Rune

    EDIT: WHY IS THE WEBSITE CARD LINK SO BIG!???

  • with my screaming in your itching ears

    ID: an anthro red and white belgian shepherd/siberian husky, sasha, lying on the floor in a room filled with various media. there is a spiral notebook opened to a page with the word "hello" written repeatedly, a pencil with a business card underneath it, and a paper where the only readable words are "danger to self" and "danger to others", checked off. one of the books is open by sasha's face.

    sasha is longhaired with a snow nose, atrophied muscles, lopsided eyebrow dots, orange eyes, freckles, and one eye closed. they are wearing a white hospital gown, green scrub pants, and 3 hospital bracelets, 2 psychiatric on one wrist and 1 medical on the other. they have red, orange, and yellow bandaids in places where you would put an IV.

    the room is dark, the floor deep purple red, and all screens are lit hot pink. the laptop screen is open to google and in the search bar are the words "hello? are you ali". the computer with the tower is open to a livejournal page. on the old TV is a simple drawing of sasha holding an ax. they look distressed. half of their face is shadowed, and they have multiple eyes. on the lit side, the eyes are of "good" alters, and on the dark side, "bad" ones. all of the red wires on the floor lead behind the TV, where there is a big, tangled cluster of red and orange wires. end

  • A piece from last year!

    I wanted to make something specifically for Halloween, and I’ve been playing around with the idea of a Jack and Sally holiday card for a while. This was a lot of fun, and I got way more in-depth with the background than I anticipated. I like to imagine that they swap cards with Santa every year now.

  • **TEN OF WANDS**

    UPRIGHT: duty, obligation, over-burdened

    REVERSED: resigned to fate, letting go

    ===

    A few years ago I made my Mahariel an Inquisition-style Tarot Card, but I've come a long way artistically since then, so I wanted to revisit the concept. Here's the new piece and the original!
